Characteristic of chemical constituent and antibacterial property from Etlingera elatior fruit have been carried out. Essential oil of plant was extracted using steam and water distillation and then analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Antibacterial activity of the essential oil was done through disc diffusion method against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Eschericia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Percentage yield of essential oil was about 0,09% (v/w). The GC-MS profile revealed that E. elatior contained 35 compounds where 1-dodecanol, dodecanal and trans-caryophyllene were predicted to be main components. The oil showed activity against B. Cereus, S. Aureus, E. Coli, and P. aeruginosa with zone of inhibition were about 25, 15.2, 11.67 and 12.33 mm respectively.

Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui struktur senyawa fenolik yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak etil asetat biji honje ( E. elatior ). Isolasi senyawa fenolik dilakukan dengan metode maserasi, fraksinasi dengan kromatografi kolom gravitasi (KKG), dan kromatografi lapis tipis (KLT). Uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH ( 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl ) dan penentuan struktur senyawa menggunakan spektroskopi UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, dan MS. Isolat yang diperoleh berupa gum kuning sebanyak 18 mg dari 3 kg sampel kering. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan menunjukkan isolat dari ekstrak etil asetat memiliki aktivitas yang sangat kuat dengan IC 50 1,32 µg/mL. Hasil analisis dengan spektroskopi UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, dan MS menunjukkan isolat sesuai dengan rumus molekul C 7 H 6 O 4 yang dikenal dengan asam protokatekuat (asam 3,4-dihidroksi benzoat). Telah dilaporkan penelitian untuk mengetahui senyawa yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dan antibakteri dalam ekstrak etanol buah namnam ( C. cauliflora L.) menggunakan instrumen GC-MS. Hasil analisa GC-MS menunjukkan adanya senyawa 5-hiroksimetilfurfural sebagai komponen utama dalam ekstrak etanol buah namnam. Ekstrak etanol buah namnam memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan nilai IC 50 sebesar 328,29 ppm dan memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap E. coli dan S. aureus dengan zona hambat masing-masing 16 mm pada konsentrasi 20%. A research has been reported to know antidiabetes activity of ethyl acetate extract fractions of screw pine leaf fragrant (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) by α-glukosidase method. Extracting made by macerated sample with ethyl acetate as solvent followed by thin layer chromatograpy to separating components. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) result with n-hexan:ethyl acetate (3:1) as eluent and addition of three acetic acid glacial drip provides five fractions with Rf each of 0,20; 0,30; 0,55; 0,60; and 0,70. It is found that Fraction 2 has highest antidiabetic activity with relative IC50 value 77,57 ppm.

A research of antioksidant activity from water crude extract of kecombrang flower (Etlingera elatior) have been reported. This Research aim to give erudite evidence of kecombrang flower as a functional food. Antioksidant was examined by activity diphenyl picryl hidrazyl ( DPPH) methode and chemical component analyses using GCMS. Water crude extract of kecombrang flower shows antioxidan activity ( ICso = 61. 6497 ppm) and waspredicted to have component of l-dodekanol, S-metil-l-oxo-lbuten 1-(21,41, 51-trihidroxyl phenil} and 1tetradecene (tR= 13,26, area=6,03, similarity at 98%).
