Transition metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) metal ions with general stoichiometry [M(L)X]X and [M(L)SO4], where M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II), L = 3,3’-thiodipropionic acid bis(4-amino-5-ethylimino-2,3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazoline) and X = NO3−, Cl− and OAc−, have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectral techniques like IR, UV and EPR. The nickel(II) complexes were found to have octahedral geometry, whereas cobalt(II) and copper(II) complexes were of tetragonal geometry. The covalency factor (β) and orbital reduction factor (k) suggest the covalent nature of the complexes. The ligand and its complexes have been screened for their antifungal and antibacterial activities against three fungi, i.e. Alternaria brassicae, Aspergillus niger and Fusarium oxysporum and two bacteria, i.e. Xanthomonas compestris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The synthesis of novel bimetallic Cu(II) complexes with general stoichiometry [Cu(2)(H(2)L)X(2)(H(2)O)(2)], [Cu(2)(H(2)L)(CH(3)COO)(2)] and [Cu(2)(H(2)L)SO(4)(H(2)O)(2)] (where H(2)L=dideprotonated ligand and X=NO(3)(-) and Cl(-)) derived from tetradentate ligand obtained by the condensation of 1,4-diformyl piperazine with carbohydrazide has been discussed. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, mass, UV, EPR spectral studies and thermogravimetric analyses. The value of magnetic moments indicates that the complexes are paramagnetic and show the antiferromagnetic interaction between the two metal centres. The complexes possess the square planar coordination environment. The values of covalency measurements, i.e., in-plane sigma-bonding alpha(2), in-plane pi-bonding beta(2) and orbital reduction factor k indicate the covalent nature of complexes.

Abstract New metal complexes of the type [M(DAP-Ch-DAP)H2O]X2or3 and [M(DAP-Th-DAP)H2O]X2or3 [where M = Mn(II) or Cr(III); DAP-Ch = 2, 6-Diacetylpyridinebis(carbohydrazide), DAP-Th = 2, 6-Diacetylpyridinebis-(thiocarbohydrazide);X = ClorOAc] have been synthesized and characterized by analytical methods, infrared spectral data, conductivity measurements and thermal studies. The pyridine nitrogen, two azomethine nitrogens and two amide (ketonic) oxygen atoms in case of DAP-Ch-DAP and two thioamide sulphur atoms in case of DAP-Th-DAP take part in nucleophilic condensation and coordination to metal ions. The mononuclear products, their synthetic procedures, reactions and their spectral and thermal studies are reported.

Abstract Mononuclear complexes of manganese(II), [Mn(FaHh-DAP)X2] and chromium(III), [Cr(FaHh-DAP)X3], where X = Cl−, OAc− were prepared with the nitrogen and oxygen donor macrocyclic ligands derived from the condensation of 2,5-furandiaciddihydrazide (FaHh) with 2,6-diacetylpyridine (DAP). These complexes were characterised with the help of elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, magnetic moments, spectral and thermal studies.

New mononuclear iron(III), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) macrocyclic complexes of the general formulae [M(L)X2] [where M = Co(II) and Ni(II)] and [Fe(L)X2]X [L = 5,9‐dioxo‐3,4,7,10,11,17‐hexaaza‐2,11,13,15,1(17)‐N‐pentadienebicyclo[3,11,11,13]heptadecane; X = Cl, NO3, OAc or 0.5 SO4] were synthesized. The complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, atomic absorption, magnetic moment measurements, UV–Vis and infrared spectral studies. All the complexes were found to have octahedral geometry.
