Abstract Adventure tourism is a specific type of tourism that has been increasingly popular in Serbia in recent years. In this regard, the paper identifies the basic characteristics of adventure tourism, its development in Serbia, with a great emphasis placed on high mountain areas that, owing to their physical and geographic characteristics, possess huge potential. The aim of this research is to examine the effects of the post-1990 transition on the relocation of tourism and changes in the structure of tourism over the last 20 years in Belgrade. Economic and social development altered spatial relations of tourist factors and elements. Apart from the old city core, new tourist zones and directions appeared. Tourist flows and economic challenges influenced the rationalisation of doing business and relocating the hotels outside the central city municipalities. Belgrade has been acknowledged as a low-cost destination of fun and nightlife and the citys new image has attracted more foreign tourists. Both the volume of foreign tourists and their countries of origin have changed significantly over the last several years. However, there have been negligible economic effects on the citys economy, despite this increase in the number of foreign tourists. In conclusion, we examine the implications of new directions in tourism development for the future position of Belgrade as a tourist destination in a competitive European market.

Dejan Šabić; Snežana Vujadinović; Sanja Stojković; Snežana Djurdjić

The article analyzes the consequences of one century long human influences on vegetation of the wetland ecosystem, on the example of Pančevački Rit in Belgrade, Serbia. The autochthonous, non-altered ecosystem was formed in the alluvial plain between Danube and Timis River in the formation of connected swamps and bogs with periodically flooded patches. The major transformation of the wetland ecosystem started with the construction of the embankment and dense canal system followed by settlements development, increasing of population density, intensification of agriculture activities etc. The study area transformation factors were identified in the first phase of research, while the second phase includes analyses of their influences on habitat conversion using GIS, with the purpose to preserve fragments of indigenous wetland vegetation, mostly fragile wetland meadows from further degradation.

A Review of the Geographical Research of Isolation and Separation Features of the Balkan Peoples and States in the Time of Cvijić and Today

Dejan Šabić; Snežana Vujadinović

The Balkan Peninsula is a geographical region where different civilizations meet and permeate, but also a region of isolation and separation of its peoples. Its territory was the place where the interests of the great economic and political powers often collided and merged, mostly for political and military reasons. The historical processes that marked the last decade of the 20th century on the Balkan Peninsula were not in accordance with the integration processes in Europe, which took place after the Second World War, and whose intensity heightened after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the two parts of Germany. Most nations in the region were not economically and politically ready to accept social changes in Europe and therefore remained isolated and separated in most cases. The article focuses on the geographical research of the isolation and separation features of the Balkan peoples and the states in the time of Jovan Cvijic and nowadays, through the prism of contemporary political and economic processes.

ABSTRACT Our study analyses the effects of wind farm investments on sustainable development in Serbia after the political changes in 2000. With the purpose of creating the conditions for the inflow of renewable energy investments, the institutional and legal frameworks, as well as energetic and economic reforms, were initiated after 2000. The new laws and strategy were the impetus for the promotion of utilization of and investing in renewable energy sources (RES) in Serbia. The new Law on Energy (2011) defines an action plan for the utilization of RES and systematically regulates the position of electricity producers in Serbia. Hence, the energy legislative framework harmonized with the European Union, as well as the new economic conditions in Serbia, was finally defined. It was an opportunity for foreign direct investment in the RES sector.
