Safelight for photomorphogenetic studies: Infrared radiation and infrared-scope

Moritoshi Iino; Denis J. Carr

Abstract Green light affects the growth of etiolated cereal seedlings. Green ‘safelights’ are therefore not safe for photomorphogenetic studies. Invisible infrared (IR) radiation, in which objects can be viewed using an IR-scope, is proposed as a safelight. The IR radiation exerts no measurable effect on the growth of cereal seedlings.
