OBJECTIVE In the present study, we investigate the association between the val66met polymorphism of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BNDF) and the performance on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test in a sample of Caucasian Brazilian patients with bipolar disorder. METHOD Sixty-four patients with bipolar disorder were assessed and their performance on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test was compared with the allele frequency and genotype of the val66met polymorphism of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor. RESULTS The percentage of non-perseverative errors was significantly higher among patients with the val/val genotype. There was no association between (BNDF) genotype frequency and other Wisconsin Card Sorting Test domains. CONCLUSION Our results did not replicate previous descriptions of an association between a worse cognitive performance and the presence of the met allele of the val66met brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene polymorphism.

This study investigated the relationship between measures of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) and a brief battery of cognitive functions (NEUPSILIN) with the goal of providing a better understanding of the association between executive processes and other functions. The sample included 39 people, from 14 to 61 years old, with an average education of 12.38 (SD = 3.65) years of study. The hypothesis that correlations would be moderate to strong between the measures of executive function, working memory, attention and prospective memory from NEUPSILIN and WCST scores was partially corroborated because the intensity of the correlations was below than the expected. Other correlations were also found between the WCST scores and tasks that assess semantic-episodic memory, oral language (inference processing) and writing (reading) components.

This article discusses the way young professionals enter and commit themselves in the social economy and associative work field. The main objective is to understand the relationships between the process of subjectification and the construction of the professional ideal among workers up to 30 years old. The analysis of the interviews, methodologically based on the biographical approach, indicates a great diversity of ways of comprehending work relationships, concerning the principles of social economy and associativism. Lack of social support (from government or civil society) and financial sustainability of projects influence in the way young workers cohere to the model of social economy management. The analysis of the interviews and the long-term observation of the projects indicate that self-management principles are only partially accomplished, existing a tendency to reproduce paternalist and hierarchical relationships.

Contemporary work changes and subjectification processes: young workers facing new economy and social economy. Contemporary labor market increased society’s social gap between those inserted in the labor market and those surviving in a precarious way. Social economy emerged in opposition to this social fracture. Using the biographical approach, we discuss work’s trajectories of 30 young workers divided in two groups. The first group is formed by 15 workers employed in the new economy sector (telecommunications, Internet and software) and 5 workers employed in reengineered banks. The second group is composed by 5 workers involved in social economy projects and 5 workers involved in a communitarian association. The analysis of the first group’s workers’ interviews point to the creation/foundation of a highly individualistic ethics and behavior. The workers belonging to the second group seem to explain their experience just as an alternative to unemployment. Due to this conclusion, the question that emerges is if these projects are able to constitute a real opposition to the contemporary management discourse.

This article aims to discuss the content of Resolution N° 007/2003 of the Federal Council of Psychology, which comprised psychological reports’ writing and had the intention to reduce the number of complaints to their quality. However, nowadays there are still many ethical processes due to faults in these documents, especially in psychological reports. The great heterogeneity of these documents, both in terms of form and content, may raise doubts about their quality. The comments and criticisms developed in this paper are intended to assist professionals in the writing of their documents, and also 1 Endereço para correspondência: Travessa Alexandrino de Alencar, 50 / 701 A, Azenha, Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil 90160-030. The paper examines the technical principles of written language, as well as the ethical, technical and scientifi c principles of the profession of psychologist. The importance of a written return of the results of evaluations, along with the obligatory oral return is also highlighted. The four types of psychological documents are presented, as well as the discussion of their goals and structures, with suggestions for additions to the report structure. Finally, some practical guidelines for writing documents are offered.
