Explorando conteúdos matemáticos a partir de temas ambientais

Environmental education is an educative process which aims at developing teaching tools and extending educative practice to make human beings live in harmony with the environment. Mathematical Modeling is a strategy for teaching and learning, in which the students change situations of reality into mathematical models through investigation, action and validating, approaching problems which are related to their everyday lives. Modeling enables the learning of mathematical content applied to other sciences, where Mathematics is learned and understood as a tool for the comprehension and possible change of reality. Thus, mathematical models can be a useful tool to make us conscious while subject of our own action. In this work, the themes approached are: fish growth; air pollution and toxic agrochemicals.

Mathematical Modelling in the Teaching of Statistics in Undergraduate Courses

In agreement with the elements of the statistics education theoretical framework, as well as critical education, mathematical modelling allows the possibility of pedagogical projects that value interdisciplinarity and active participation of the student in knowledge construction. In this chapter, we present a scenario that occurred in the statistics discipline of an undergraduate course. We adopt Critical Education practices to discuss global warming, its causes and consequences for society.

Filatelia como mecanismo de divulgação e de ensino para as Engenharias no Brasil

Este artigo propoe que e possivel divulgar e ensinar aspectos das engenharias por meio das imagens presentes nos selos postais comemorativos. O selo postal pode ser um poderoso meio de divulgacao cientifica para sensibilizar as sociedades, de um modo geral, sobre a importância das pesquisas cientificas e o que foi realizado no campo das engenharias. Muitas deficiencias nas informacoes e no ensino das engenharias poderiam ser minimizadas com a ajuda de veiculos de comunicacao menos usuais, como os selos postais, cujo alcance estende-se alem das fronteiras meramente comerciais. No presente trabalho faz-se um retrospecto do aparecimento e uso dos selos postais no Brasil, seu papel cultural e o desenvolvimento das emissoes abordando temas da engenharia. Analisam-se todos os selos brasileiros emitidos entre 1843 a 2010, classificando aqueles com conotacoes nas engenharias. Apresenta-se tambem uma proposta para maior divulgacao do patrimonio da engenharia do Brasil, por meio desse veiculo de comunicacao.
