This paper examines institutional sources of product innovation with reference to the online gaming sector of Korea and the UK. It examines the combined impact of formal and informal institutions and their interaction with multiple case studies. Despite the growing importance of innovative products in contemporary entertainment (including interactive games), the ‘informal’ source of innovation has attracted limited attention. By closely looking at the idea exploration, generation and selection process (where creativity plays a major role), we intend to find out how values and public policy affect product innovation. This study shows that the value of Korean and UK online gaming firms (regardless of their different socio-economic contexts) plays an important role in generating product innovation. An additional point is that Korean firms are likely to take advantage of government policy support to overcome inadequate institutional settings in conjunction with the initial conditions of online game development.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore empirically whether there are meaningful relationships between key entrepreneurial marketing (EM) variables and the demographic characteristics of the organization and its manager.Design/methodology/approach – The data were gathered from a sample of 369 hotels from all regions of Thailand through the use of a postal survey. Several multiple regression models were used to test the relationships in the study. Interaction terms were added to some models to test the moderating effects of major demographic variables on various EM attributes.Findings – The study shows which types of hotels and which types of managers were associated with EM characteristics. The results indicate that demographic characteristics, such as age, size, location, experience, and gender, significantly explain sets of entrepreneurial marketing variables. It was found, for instance, that both a young hotel and a large hotel are positively associated with entrepreneurial marketing, while o...

Globalization has enabled countries such as the UK to attain multiculturalism; however, there is no investigation in relation to the advantages of multiculturalism at the film industry level. Multiculturalism is related to the Commonwealth immigration after the Second World War period. The introduction of new cultures into the UK has enabled the growth and development of successful global industries such as the British Urban Music and British Asian Film, which have prospered over time and have now become mainstream export-led industries. Why is cultural diversity significant towards the generation of competitive advantages within the British South Asian film sector? We will explore the country specific advantage of multiculturalism in the UK and their impact on creativity of screenwriters that has contributed to successful films in the industry.

This paper discusses the employee voice in the high technology space sector within P.R. China, which is a fast growing sector globally. Using an integrative perspective on employee voice, this paper provides insight in this under-researched knowledge-intensive sector. The Chinese achievement in the space sector within a short time span and under considerable resource constraint could be explained by the dedication of generations of scientific talent. It is argued that the notion of employee voice among the highly skilled knowledge workforce should be considered in the context of the unique macro factors influencing the sector since 1949, as well the culture and ideology shaping the country with a long unique civilization. Hence, the path dependency of employee voice is associated with long term influences that are beyond the control of the firm.
