Beatris Cristina Possato; Antonio J. Rodríguez-Hidalgo; Rosario Ortega-Ruiz; Dirce Djanira Pacheco e Zan

This article discusses the conflict mediation as a way to ease the school violence, that was born in legal circles in the United States, diffuses through Europe and later in South America, including Brazil. The literature search was conducted, seeking official documents, investigations and books published on these experiences in different countries. There is an expansion of programs and projects that use the mediation of conflicts over the past decade in the countries of South America. By analyzing these programs it was possible to notice that there is a lot of investment in this type of strategy, which is only one among others to assist schools with the problem of violence. Nevertheless, conflict mediation becomes the central element of the educational programs. To set up the best performance in a given society or school reality would be an extensive research needed to assess what would be the best strategy, however, conflict mediation is expanding increasingly indiscriminately.

This study aimed at surveying and performing a theoretical reflection on the phenomena of graffite and pichacao in relation to youths. In order to do a thorough theoretical study, it was possible to find different lines of thought indicating the existence of graffiti and pichacao. For some, a means of communication for young people, for others, as a protest of oppressed groups and also as a way of establishing a status, a distinguishing feature in relation to a group and building a sense of belonging. The discussion brought up the fact that different youths living in every corner and charms of the country established a relationship of power with the cities. Given the premise that where there are relations of power there is resistance, which forms of youth participation do exist in our society? For this, the text also proposes the construction of a path where the tryad social participation, self care and care towards the other, in connection with verbs such as to invent, resist and create, can make all the difference in the process of producing a singular and ethical life, that can be enjoyed and lived as a work of art.
