Stamped metal antenna including a feeding transmission line

Dominique Lo Hine Tong; Philippe Minard; Pierre-Marie Morin; Jean-Marc Le Foulgoc

This paper deals with a concept of low-cost metal inverted F antenna (IFA) that includes a feeding transmission line (IFATL). The aim of the approach is to ease its integration in a home-networking device, such as a gateway or a set-top box, where space is limited and where various components (display, connectors etc.) create obstacles to antenna radiation. The benefits of the proposed IFATL are demonstrated through an application in the WLAN 2.4GHz band, where the antenna assembly is disposed behind a display panel while featuring the suitable radiation performances.

Co-integration of filters and waveguide to microstrip transitions using the foam technology

C. Person; N. Caillere; J.Ph. Coupez; Dominique Lo Hine Tong; A. Iouzir

In this paper, we discuss about original designs of passive structures integrated within a common housing foam material. Milling and pressed moulding techniques are used to produce particular shapes (ridge, cavities,..) then allowing a complete integration and simultaneous association of passive functions (filter, waveguide, microstrip line, polariser..). The foam material is considered either as a supporting structure or as a grooved cavity with internal elements. Experimental as well as simulated results are presented, with original association of volumic and planar functions.

Simple and Compact Planar Ultra-Wideband Antenna with Band-Notched Characteristics

I.T.E. Elfergani; Pedro Lopes; Jonathan Rodriguez; Dominique Lo Hine Tong

This chapter addresses an approach to achieve the ultra-wideband (UWB) spectrum as well as discusses the phenomena of frequency interference within UWB antennas. The antenna consists of a hexagonal-shaped structure printed over FR4 substrate. For bandwidth improvement, defected ground structure (DGS) was first introduced, and, secondly, a stub was added in the feeding strip to achieve a larger bandwidth. To achieve the frequency band-notched characteristics, a half hexagonal slot was etched on the radiator, which creates a notch at 5.2 GHz, and then by introducing a full hexagonal slot, another rejected band was produced at 10 GHz. The outcomes also confirm the proposed UWB antenna design can achieve superior dual band-notch performance at desired frequency bands.

Practical multi-band antenna for 3G and 4G mobile services

I.T.E. Elfergani; Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini; Jonathan Rodriguez; Dominique Lo Hine Tong; Raed A. Abd-Alhameed

This paper presents a compact antenna design based on PIFA configuration with multi-band features. The present design operates over the lower and upper bands of LTE700/2600MHz, together with the existing standard of GSM1900MHz. An approach of size miniaturization and triple band characteristics was applied through the embedded slot over the radiator surface. The antenna occupies a small volume of 13.5×50×7mm3, which is mounted over the ground plane with dimensions of 50×100mm2. Moreover, two identical antennas are integrated within the home device, where their results are checked and compared with the standalone version of the antenna.

Stacked slot antenna for wireless communication

Dominique Lo Hine Tong; Kevin Nadaud

This paper presents a study of a printed rectangular slot antenna that has been folded twice by using a multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) structure. The investigation carried out show there is an optimal way to fold the slot antenna while keeping its intrinsic electrical behavior and achieving an interesting size reduction. The potential of the proposed concept is demonstrated with the design of a folded slot antenna devoted for WLAN or Bluetooth applications operating in the 2.4GHz band, using low-cost multilayer FR4 substrate.

Dual-band Microstrip-to-Slot Line transition

Dominique Lo Hine Tong; Philippe Minard; Jean-Luc Robert

A novel dual-band Microstrip-to-Slot Line (MSL) transition which enables for instance to feed a wide-band tapered slot antenna (TSA) is introduced in this paper. The design contains two input filters connected together with a microstrip line, this line crossing then a slot-line that feeds the TSA. The relevancy of the proposed concept is demonstrated in the design and simulation of a transition operating in the frequency bands of the IEEE-802.11b/g/a/n WLAN standard, targeting antenna design for home networking devices.

Inductive iris band-pass filter integrating floating inserts for pseudo-elliptic response

Charline Guguen; Dominique Lo Hine Tong

This paper presents a new type of pseudo-elliptic filter. It consists of the insertion in the waveguide of floating printed elements that generate transmission zeros. The design method is described first then the performance of one filter in the 30 GHz band as well as its realization mode is presented.
