Recently there has been much interest in improving adoption practice. Workshops were sponsored by the Child Welfare League of America in 1947, 1951, and in January, 1955. The Childrens Bureau (207) held a conference in June, 1955, to explore possible ways of eliminating the black market in babies and of providing adequate protection for all children placed in adoption. In September, 1955, representatives from agencies and persons from allied disciplines met to consider what constitutes good adoption practice and to enumerate possibilities for research.
