THROMBOSIS of the renal artery is not a frequent condition, but it is not nearly so rare as is indicated by the number of times it is diagnosed. Practically all the cases reported are those found at autopsy or operation, but it is often possible to make an accurate diagnosis with present methods and with the condition in mind as a possibility. Renal-artery thrombosis is not synonymous with renal infarction, for the latter is probably much more frequently caused by venous thrombosis, which is due to various inflammatory and traumatic lesions affecting the renal veins.
