Maxillary Premolar Variation Among the Papago Indians

Donald H. Morris

In a sample of approximately 200 teen-age Papago Indians of the American Southwest, two girls and one boy had maxillary first premolars grossly different from those of the rest of the sample. In each of these teeth, both antimeres were affected; however, in no instance were maxillary second premolars affected. With the exception of a photograph in a report by Brabant, Klees, and Werelds.1 who discuss anomalies of premolar form, no illustrations or descriptions of somewhat similar teeth have been found. The anomaly they show, however, is not the same type as seen in the Papago Indian teeth.
