An Adaptable and Adjustable Mapping from XML Data to Tables in RDB

Wang xiao-ling; Luan Jin-feng; Dong Yi-sheng

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of an initial study about automatically storing XML data in RDBMS. These are some research about storing given XML data, and most of these approaches based on pre-defined rules and heuristics, without considering application requirement and workload. As the result, the relational schema obtained for given XML is often not optimal for query performance. As a first step, this study was focused on providing an adaptable and adjustable strategy for modelling XML data in relational database systems. This AAM (Adjustable and Adaptable Method) takes advantage of the GA (Genetic Algorithm) to design data schema in RDBMS based on cost-driven approach, we implement and evaluate our approach. Experiments show that this method provides an adaptable and automatic mapping from XML data to physical tables in RDBMS with respect to different users and application requirement.

An efficient index structure for XML based on generalized suffix tree

Liang Zuopeng; Hu Kongfa; Ye Ning; Dong Yi-sheng

A novel index structure based on the generalized suffix tree (PIGST) is proposed. Combined with post lists, PIGST can answer both structural and content queries. The distinct paths in an XML collection are mapped into strings. The construction algorithm of the PIGST for the path strings is presented based on the modification and improvement of a well-known suffix tree construction algorithm that only requires linear time and space complexity. The query process merely needs m character comparisons for direct containment queries, where m is the length of a query string. An efficient processing method for the indirect containment queries that avoids the inefficient tree traversal operation is also presented. Experiments show that PIGST outperforms earlier approaches. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Web Service Description and Discovery Based on Semantic Model

Yang Xuemei; Xu Lizhen; Dong Yi-sheng; Wang Yongli

A novel semantic model of Web service description and discovery was proposed through an extension for profile model of Web ontology language for services (OWL-S) in this paper. Similarity matching of Web services was implemented through computing weighted summation of semantic similarity value based on specific domain ontology and dynamical satisfy extent evaluation for quality of service (QoS). Experiments show that the provided semantic matching model is efficient.

Evolving objects for software engineering

Wang xiao-ling; Dong Yi-sheng

This paper is concerned with evolving objects method for software design that can adapt to the changing environments and requirements automatically. We present system architecture with objects library, where there are objects based on domain ontologies. We define some genetic operators for objects, and discuss how to apply these genetic operators on objects to get new objects, which can satisfy new requirements.
