EditorialMessage from the President of N-OADN

Donna Meyer

Frequently as I enter a new year, I pause and reflect back on the year that has just concluded. As I think back on the past year as President of the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (N-OADN), I think about the great strides NOADN has made as the voice for associate degree nursing in this country and our recognition as a leading nursing organization. At times, this has been challenging, but with a strong and dedicated board of directors and supportive membership, we are moving forward, not only for the benefit of associate degree nursing but also the future of the nursing profession and health care for all Americans. The N-OADN Board of Directors has been involved in numerous activities in this past year to assure the importance of associate degree nursing. Although the forums, conferences, presentations, and round tables have been informative and engaging, it is not the activities that have been important but the individuals the board of directors have met and the relationships developed. As president, I have been fortunate to travel coast to coast this past year to meet many colleagues. It is these individuals who, everyday, provide me with the ability to continue to feel passionate about the work of N-OADN. I have fond memories of my trips to California, Kansas, and Washington to talk with individuals about their interest in forming an N-OADN chapter. Their enthusiasm for associate degree nursing is remarkable. It was a true pleasure to meet with the North Carolina constituency as they began to rejuvenate their chapter and add new leadership. The Missouri chapter was welcoming, and the work they are doing on academic progression is exciting and to be commended. My travels to Jacksonville, FL, for the induction of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Nu was truly a highlight as I observed the exhilarating faces of the new graduates entering the profession. Their families were so proud of their accomplishments, and I felt humbled to be asked to share in this special occasion. The numerous meetings and presentations with community college and nursing leaders have continued to demonstrate strong partnerships and shared interests. The round table discussion convened by the N-OADNBoard of Directors with national community college and nursing leaders to discuss
