Optically active tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids, (R)-(+)-higenamine (1R) and (S)-(-)-higenamine (1 S), and their optically active 1-naphthylmethyl analogues (2 and 3), were synthesized by enantioselective hydrogenation of the corresponding dihydroisoquinoline intermediates 7 as a key step. The evaluation of the platelet anti-aggregation effect demonstrated clearly that the (S)-(-)-enantiomers, 1S, 2S, and 3S, had higher inhibitory potency than the corresponding (R)-(+)-antipodes, 1R, 2R, and 3R, respectively, to platelet aggregation induced by epinephrine. 1S enantiomer was superior to the corresponding 1R enantiomer in attenuating all of the disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and multiple organ failure (MOF) parameters tested, while the S enantiomers 2S and 3S ameliorated some of the DIC and MOF parameters more effectively than the corresponding antipodes 2R and 3R.

This paper presents requirements and referential software architecture for home server based multimedia collaboration services. The architecture can be applied to home servers and mobile devices for collaborative works such as voice over Internet protocol, collaborative web browsing, file transmission, and instant messaging.

In this paper, we present a novel software architecture providing the connected multimedia services through networked embedded systems. The connected multimedia service means that a multimedia session is preserved even though an end-user moves from one computing environment to others. For getting the immediate multimedia services, all that he has to do is to carry a small mobile pad, such as PDA or cellular telephone, which shows a list of devices that he can use as I/O devices of the on-going multimedia session. He does not have to re-setup the session. When he clicks and selects the proper devices among the devices listed on the pad, the session is immediately migrated to the selected device. We, in this paper, present our novel mechanism using well-developed and commercialized protocols such as SIP and X.10 to support this new paradigm of ubiquitous multimedia services.

A variable block-size noise reduction algorithm for image sequences is proposed, in which the variable block-size motion compensation concept in H.264/AVC is modified and applied to adaptive filtering. Computer simulations with various test sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Today healthcare systems are mainly used to provide e-healthcare services in the hospital domain. We implement a multimedia healthcare embedded system that uses the telephone connected to the homeserver to initiate a multimedia communication to the hospital network using the session initiation protocol (SIP). This work illustrates our implementation of the e-healthcare service for consumer electronic devices using the conventional telephone to assist senior residents.

Healthcare has been primarily concentrated in the hospital domain. With the current technology trends, some e-healthcare services have evolved. However, healthcare has not been accessible for the common man. Generic healthcare services available today focus on technology marvel. This paper illustrates our implementation of the healthcare service that uses the conventional telephone. The usage of telephone for facilitating Voice and Video over IP (V2oIP) communication to the home generates a new lease of life to the senior residents of the society. This embedded healthcare system uses the telephone connected to the HomeServer that connects to the hospital network over the Internet. The telephone uses a special sequence character to invoke the healthcare application. The application connects to the hospital network using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to facilitate multimedia communication. The output can be configured for display on the TV connected to the HomeServer and/or any conventional display.

Automated teller machines (ATMs) are an integral part of banking and financial services at food courts. However, multimedia usage at shopping places and food courts is still at infancy. Finance and multimedia when integrated offer a whole new array of opportunities for next generation wireless services. This creates new opportunities to seamlessly integrate wireless multimedia applications, multimedia conferencing, shopping tokens and e-commerce over the financial services network. This integrated embedded ATM Access Point design is elaborated to present the food court scenario. Bandwidth is an essential criterion that is considered And presented to the user.
