Chromogenic and fluorescent recognition of iodide with a benzimidazole-based tripodal receptor.

Doo Youn Lee; Narinder Singh; Min Joung Kim; Doo Ok Jang

A novel 1,3,5-substituted triethylbenzene derivative with a 2-aminobenzimidazole moiety as a binding and signaling subunit was synthesized. The sensor was tested in a buffered CH(3)CN/H(2)O (99:1, v/v) solution and found to be selective for iodide as demonstrated by the photophysical properties obtained through UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy analyses.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1999

A mild and efficient procedure for the preparation of acid chlorides from car☐ylic acids

Doo Ok Jang; Doo Jin Park; Joong-Gon Kim

Abstract Various car☐ylic acids are converted into the corresponding acid chlorides by treatment with trichloroacetonitrile and triphenylphosphine in methylene chloride at room temperature. Aryl acids show higher reactivity than alkyl acids under the conditions.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1996

Hypophosphorous acid mediated dehalogenation in water

Doo Ok Jang

Abstract A new methodology has been developed to reduced the water soluble organohalides in aqueous solution in high yields using hypophosphorous acid.

Green Chemistry | 2014

A ball-milling strategy for the synthesis of benzothiazole, benzimidazole and benzoxazole derivatives under solvent-free conditions

Hemant Sharma; Narinder Singh; Doo Ok Jang

A convenient solvent-free method for the synthesis of benzothiazole, benzimidazole, and benzoxazole derivatives has been developed using recyclable ZnO-NPs via a ball-milling strategy. The method affords environmentally friendly reaction conditions that score high on the ecoscale with the low E-factor. The process is also highly efficient even on a multi-gram scale and provides easy product isolation.

Chemical Communications | 2006

Enantioselective radical addition reactions to the C=N bond utilizing chiral quaternary ammonium salts of hypophosphorous acid in aqueous media

Dae Hyan Cho; Doo Ok Jang

An enantioselective addition of alkyl radicals to glyoxylate oxime ether mediated by Cinchona alkaloid derived chiral ammonium salts of hypophosphorous acid, QP and QDP, has been developed.

Tetrahedron Letters | 2002

Radical deoxygenation of alcohols and vicinal diols with N-ethylpiperidine hypophosphite in water

Doo Ok Jang; Dae Hyan Cho

Radical deoxygenation of alcohols and vicinal diols with N-ethylpiperidine hypophosphite both in alcohols and in water is described. S-Methyl dithiocarbonate and bis-S-methyl dithiocarbonate of carbohydrates and nucleosides were deoxygenated efficiently under reaction conditions.

Synthetic Communications | 2001

A CONVENIENT METHOD FOR SYNTHESIS OF SYMMETRICAL ACID ANHYDRIDES FROM CARBOXYLIC ACIDS WITH TRICHLOROACETONITRILE AND TRIPHENYLPHOSPHINE

Joong-Gon Kim; Doo Ok Jang

Various carboxylic acids are converted into the corresponding carboxylic acid anhydrides treated with trichloroacetonitrile and triphenylphosphine in the presence of triethylamine at room temperature.

Tetrahedron Letters | 2000

Facile synthesis of enantiopure (R)-malates

Doo Ok Jang; Seong Ho Song

Abstract ( R )-Malates were synthesized from cyclic thionocarbonates of ( R , R )-tartrates by reacting with hypophosphorous acid in high isolated yields.

Journal of the American Chemical Society | 2010

Indium-mediated catalytic enantioselective allylation of N-benzoylhydrazones using a protonated chiral amine.

Sung Jun Kim; Doo Ok Jang

A catalytic enantioselective indium-mediated allylation of N-benzoylhydrazones in conjunction with a protonated chiral amine affording enantioenriched homoallylic amines with an extremely high level of enantioselectivity and chemical yield was developed.

Journal of Non-crystalline Solids | 2002

Organic–inorganic polymer hybrids based on unsaturated polyester

Chan-Moon Chung; Seungmoon Lee; Jong Gu Kim; Doo Ok Jang

Abstract Organic–inorganic polymer hybrid materials were first prepared using an unsaturated polyester (UPE) as an organic component. Homogeneous UPE/silica gel hybrids formed via π–π interactions between benzene rings of the two constituents. Photocrosslinking of UPE in the hybrids resulted in the formation of interpenetrating polymer network structure.
