SummaryTo review the effect of teriparatide as an adjunctive modality for bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ), we describe a series of cases of teriparatide therapy for the treatment of BRONJ and serial changes of serum osteoclacin (s-OC) and serum C-terminal telopeptide cross-link of type I collagen (s-CTX).Introduction Management of BRONJ is quite challenging and the currently recommended modalities for BRONJ are still suboptimal. For the improvement of bony remodeling, some clinicians advocated bisphosphonate holiday although validity of this drug holiday has been debated so far. Recently, the use of teriparatide was introduced in several cases, but the number of the publication is limited and mostly anecdotal so far.MethodBisphosphonate was suspended and teriparatide was given to six patients diagnosed with BRONJ by single bone specialist. Medical record review and interviews were carried out. S-CTX and s-OC were measured at the baseline, 2 months and 3 months later teriparatide therapy. The outcome of the treatment and the change of biochemical markers were compared.ResultIn all six patients, s-OC values were significantly elevated within 2 months after teriparatide treatment and the BRONJ lesions were healed. S-CTX values were also elevated in four patients, whereas those of the rest two patients stayed within minimal change. The change was marginally significant at 3 months.ConclusionIn terms of the multifactorial etiology of BRONJ, bone formation suppression was noticed in the patients. Based upon this finding, the short-term use of teriparatide might be beneficial to the resolution of BRONJ lesions by improving suppressed bone remodeling.

Using two languages within an advertisement is increasing across many markets, throughout the world. By investigating code-switching effects between the Korean and English languages, this study is the first to directly test the Markedness Model perspective in the Korean marketplace. Furthermore, this study introduces a new type of code-switching (transliterated code-switching) between two alphabetic languages and assesses the impact of code-switching on advertising effectiveness across the different types. The results of Study 1 indicate that Korean–English (KE) code-switching and transliterated Korean–English (TL-KE) code-switching were significantly higher in attitude toward the slogan and product evaluation than English–Korean (EK) code-switching. However, there was no significant difference in the dependent variables between TL-KE and KE slogans. Study 2 tested the role of the perceived difficulty of the English words as a moderating variable. It was found that the KE slogan was more effective than the TL-KE slogan when difficult English words were embedded in the slogans, whereas no difference was found between the two slogans when the English words were perceived as easy. Implications for advertisers are presented and future research areas are discussed.

ABSTRACT This study was designed to compare the ways the websites promote giving campaigns between the United States and South Korea. Furthermore, this study explored how the campaign appeals are associated with the distinct cultural values between universities in the United States and Korea. Guided by a content analysis of 200 universities in the United States and South Korea, the findings of this study demonstrated that, compared to the Korean university websites, U.S. university websites more frequently targeted university-affiliated donors, including alumni, students, parents, and so forth, and used multimedia-based exemplars about the giving campaigns.

Drawing insights from the theory of planned behaviour, this study examined the determinants of consumer support for cause-related marketing (CRM) across companies with either positive or negative corporate social responsibility (CSR) reputations. With the use of online experimental data (n = 311 college students), similarities and differences in the relationships between the determinants were discussed across two prior CSR reputations. For companies with positive CSR reputations, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control (PBC) appeared to have positive relationships with purchase intention. For companies with negative CSR reputations, attitude towards CRM, subjective norm, and PBC appeared to have positive relationships with purchase intention. For companies with both CSR reputations, affect towards CRM support was not found to be related to purchase intention. Subsequently, purchase intention turned out to influence the development of favourable brand image for companies with both positive and negative CSR reputations. Overall, these findings shed light on the potential that controversial companies with prior negative reputations can restore and enhance their brand image by employing CRM initiatives. Theoretical and managerial implications were discussed.

o i U a t enioglossus advancement (GA) is a well-known surgial procedure mobilizing the genial tubercle on which the enioglossus muscle is inserted in order to increase space or the airway in the hypopharynx of patients with obstrucive sleep apnoea.1 To attain optimal clinical result, it is ssential to include as much genioglossus musculature as ossible through the osteotomy incision. Attempts to idenify the genial tubercle have included the anatomical study of adavers, computed tomography (CT), and various designs of steotomy,1 but the measurements of data vary.2–4 The blind ature of this technique means that there are often complicaions, such as injury to the roots of teeth and fracture of the andible. We describe a new method to achieve optimal advanceent of the genioglossus through accurate osteotomies and o locate the position of the genial tubercle complex using AD/CAM technology. We take cone-beam CT of the craniofacial skeleton and mport these datasets into medical software (Mimics 18.0, aterialise, Leuven, Belgium) to generate a 3-dimensional

The present study was designed to investigate how users neurologically respond to self-relevant virtual avatars when they identify the avatars as themselves. In particular, using an electroencephalogram (EEG) measures, this study aimed to explore how users physiologically respond to the avatars wearing their own faces. 25 undergraduate students participated in an ERP-based experiment at a large university in Seoul, Korea. In the 2×4 within-subjects factorial design, each subject was exposed to the eight combinations of two types of face presentations (photo faces vs. avatar faces) and four categories of faces (self-faces, famous faces, ideal faces, unfamiliar faces). The findings demonstrated that users paid much more attention to their own faces than to other faces regardless of the face presentation type. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that the brain potential signals of EEG can be utilized for understanding the relationship between human face-recognition system and self-presence in the domain of virtual avatars.
