The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring process that heats the Earths surface and atmosphere. It is a result of the fact that certain atmospheric gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane, are able to change the energy balance of the planet by absorbing long wave radiation emitted from the Earths surface. Number of gases are involved in the human caused enhancement of the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is the most important gas of these gases, which contributes about 55% of the change in the intensity of the Earths greenhouse effect. The global monitoring of the greenhouse gases is necessary for handling the global warming issue. This paper presents a practical implementation of a measurement station for environmental monitoring using Internet technology and large sensor networks. The application of the sensor networks in the environmental monitoring requires the development specific solutions. This paper presents a solution that relies on existing technology, but offers hardware and software upgrade due to the advantages of using the concept of virtual instrumentation. The application uses temperature sensors, air relative humidity sensors, gas sensors and others. The measurement station collects the data from the sensors and sends them to the users using the UDP protocol via the Internet and GPRS modem. The measurement station was implemented in LabVIEW programming package.

Towards Automatic Screening of Idiopathic Scoliosis Using Low-Cost Commodity Sensors—Validation Study

This paper presents some preliminary validation study results pertaining to our ongoing attempts to develop a noninvasive scoliosis and other spine disorder automated diagnostic solution implemented using commodity sensors only, thus limiting its overall cost, but still achieving adequate precision. The cost of many such commercial solutions is prohibitive to have them acquired and used by student healthcare institutes in countries such as Serbia, thus we are developing a low-cost one. If proven effective our solutions will be open-sourced.

The utilization of agricultural mechanization is crucial to its efficient exploitation that, in turn, significantly influences the entire agricultural economy as well as soil quality. Contemporary agricultural machines are GPS enabled, allowing localization and recording of their motion. In this paper we present an approach to spatio-temporal localization of agricultural mechanization operations based on a linear classifier in fuzzy linear space. We trained a classifier on data labeled using a fuzzy linear classifier in order to create a training set for a data mining predictor that may be helpful in automated management of records describing agricultural machinery’s dynamics. The training set was comprised of spatial coordinates of the machine recorded from a GPS device and then manually classified into two classes, denoting whether the machine is utilized for its primary purpose (productive operations like sowing, cultivating, spraying, etc.) or for non-productive operations such as moving the machine in transport from/to fields.

Đorđe Obradović; Živorad Mihajlović; Vladimir Milosavljevic; Miloš B. Živanov

In this paper, one solution of graphic LCD control board for lightweight electric vehicles is shown. The main idea was to build adoptable hardware solution that can be fast and easy applied in different electrical vehicles and easy for modifications. It was designed, built and tested graphic LCD for monitoring and seting up of main parameters and control signals for lightweight electric vehicle. Some of parameters that could be displayed on graphic LCD are charge status, actual speed, total mileage, daily mileage and indicators of direction. Also we discussed about other possibilities for some sensors that can be used to monitor vehicle speed and ways of visualizing the parameters of interest. The main principles that were used during the selection of hardware solutions implementation also are shown.
