In this study force sensing resistors were used to determine thepressure on the central area of each of the weight bearing pads of thefore and hind paws of dogs at the walk. Six adult normal healthy EnglishPointer dogs were used in this project. Pressure data were collected byaffixing a force sensing resistor to the central area of the groundcontact surface of each weight bearing paw pad of the right fore andhind limbs. Pressure signal data from stance phase during walking wereanalyzed. Within paw pads, the pressure graphs were consistent in formand magnitude. Within paws, there were significant pressure differencesamong pads on both fore and hind limbs. The coefficient of restitution, the embedding dimension, and the Lyapunov exponents were calculated. Theability to measure and analyze pressure on individual paw pads providesinsight into soft tissue stresses on the palmar/plantar surface of thepaw. Pressure at a wound site on the pads has a detrimental effect onwound healing and a better understanding these stresses will be ofbenefit when suturing and bandaging pad wounds. Such information isespecially important in athletic and working dogs, e.g. search andrescue dogs.

This paper deals with the subject of visual control of a hyper-redundant robot. This type of arm changes its configuration by bending a continuous backbone formed of sections connected in a serial configuration. Such tentacle arm has a variable length and theoretically it can achieve any position and orientation in the 3D space. A tentacle arm prototype was designed and the practical realization is now running. The mathematical modeling of such a robot takes under consideration both the kinematics and dynamics approach. A development environment for visual servoing application was designed and implemented. This environment includes both tools for simulating visual servoing algorithms (a graphic simulator), as well as tools for controlling hyper-redundant robots using a closed loop video control system. The visual servoing system does not answer in real time. The delay introduced by the image processing task is taken into consideration and simulations are performed trying to find a solution for this problem.

The paper deals with a software Enterprise Resource Planning type application concerning the DCT (Development Center Tool). The application consists of a development center and transport management, inside in a large Oil and Gas Company. The software application has been developed using an SAP (System and Applications, Products) environment. The programing language employs ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming). Details regarding the analysis, implementation and testing of the software application are presented.

The article brings a new overview concerning a software application inside the metrology area - the calibration of the oil reservoirs, using the concept Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The metrology area, inside a large oil and gas company, its solved by this application which has like a purpose the management of the calibration activity for the oil reservoirs. We have developed the software application in the SAP (System and Applications Products) environment. ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) its the programing language for this application, which is using the latest Web Dynpro WD technology. In the other pages of the article are presented details regarding the analysis, implementation and testing of the software application.

Over the last 20 years the European Association for Education in Electrical and Information Engineering (EAEEIE) has proven itself to be a strong organization aiming to support Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) education across Europe. EAEEIE members participated in several EU projects (i.e. ELLEIEC, THEIERE) with recognized contribution to EIE education process. Its new Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions (SALEIE) EU supported project aims to provide higher education models in the EIE disciplines that can respond to the key global technical challenges. This paper deals with the last results within the SALEIE project work package WP3 (Global Challenges). After defining the global challenges that the EIE graduates may face, a survey has been conducted to identify existing models in EIE higher education and their degree of response to key global technical challenges.

This paper deals with the problem of identifying the best EU practices regarding higher education policies in the field of engineering. The results are obtained by means of a work package in a Lifelong Learning Program. SALEIE - “Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions” program started in October 2012 and is on-going. The paper presents details regarding the design of a specific questionnaire, data collection by means of a wide survey and the preliminary analysis of the results. Here, only part of the answers is analysed, specifically those focussing to the procedure for starting a new programme and the evaluation of existing programmes.

In this study a cam and a flat-faced follower mechanism are analyzed. The dynamic analysis presents follower displacement driven by a cam rotating at a uniform angular velocity. There is a clearance between the follower and the guide. The mechanism is analyzed using simulations taking into account the impact and the friction between the flat-faced follower and the guide. Four different follower guide clearances have been used in the simulations and the largest Lyapunov exponents have been calculated and analyzed. The effect of guide clearance is investigated for different angular velocities of the cam with the aid of phase plane contour.

The present study uses MATLAB as a tool to develop and to solve the dynamical equations of motion for an open kinematic chain. MATLAB is convenient for finding the equations of motion using Lagrange method and for solving numerically the nonlinear differential equations.

The objective of the work package Policy of the LLP SALEIE project is to bring together policy administrators from institutions across Europe in order to review current practices and to identify examples of best practice. This would help build a common understanding of governance and policy implications on the strategic changes associated with the project, and create a centre for excellence in the policy area. Amongst the tools proposed to be used in the frame of SALEIE project, surveys play a major role. This paper deals with the problem of best practice examples identification based on the analysis of the data collected using the questionnaire of the survey.
