Summary By chromatography on a silicic acid column, artificial lipid mixtures and plasma lipids have been separated into fractions composed mainly of the following groups: sterol esters, triglycerides, sterols, fatty acids and phospholipids. By this tech-nic eleostearic acid is found exclusively in the triglyceride fraction after having been fed as the methyl ester.

Lipid compositions of the brains of human beings of different ages from 26 to 80 years have been determined by a combination of chromatographic techniques. No significant differences in composition were found among any of the adult agegroups, and it thus appears that the decline in brain weight and function with age is not associated with loss of any particular type of lipid.

Summary The composition of the plasma lipids of fat deficient rats had been compared with that of normal fed and fasted animals using a recently developed chromatographic method. Total plasma lipid was about 64% of normal but the percent distribution of the various classes at this lower level was not significantly different with the exception of phospholipid which was relatively higher.

Summary Ehrlich ascites tumor cells were incubated in ascitic fluid with albumin-palmitate-1-C14 complex and were then washed and incubated for varying time intervals with fresh media. Lipids of both cells and media were extracted, separated chromatographically and counted. Results show a decrease of cell free fatty acid with increases in all lipids, especially triglyceride. The major lipid synthesized is phospholipid, which, however declines after 30 minutes. Only phospholipid is released into the medium to any extent.
