Abstract Authors analyzed the volatile components of the anti-cold drug YL2000 ethanol decoction, and investigate and compare the influence of water and ethanol extraction process on the volatile components of the combination product YL2000. The essential oils of YL2000 ethanol decoction were extracted by water steam distillation, and separated and identified by GC-MS. The components were calculated with the method of normalization and compared with the references-water extraction. Sixty-eight compounds were identified in the ethanol decoction of YL2000. When compared with the water decoction, the amount of fatty acids had decreased, whereas, the amount of terpenes had increased; in the meantime, carene and pinene, which were abundant in single herbs, were not detected. Authors believe that the ethanol decoction retains the property of water decoction on the one hand and reduces both carene and pinene on the other. It enriches terpenes and reduces fatty acids in the water decoction.

Abstract Dialysis tubes (Mw 100 D and Mw 500 D) were used to dialyze and purify the water extraction of Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) and Wuzhuyu decoction, and three parts of molecular weight less than 100 D, between 100 and 500 D, and more than 500 D were obtained. To ascertain the peak time point efficiency, several chemicals treated at different time periods by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were analyzed, and the activity of blood vessels was studied in vitro. By comparing different dialyzing times for three chemicals including evodiamine, isorhamnetin, and limonin in 100–500 D, the best treatment time was found to be 48 h. The portion more than 100 D significantly contracted blood vessels, while the portion less than 100 D did not. In conclusion, it may be feasible to dispose samples using dialysis tubes with different apertures and apply the extract to pharmacological evaluation in vitro.
