Analyzing educational university students’ conceptions through smartphone-based PDEODE*E tasks on magnetic field in several mediums

Conceptual understanding is one of the most important aspects in the study of Physics because of it useful to understand principles behind certain phenomenon which happened. An innovative method was needed to strengthen and enhance student’s conceptual understanding, especially regarding the abstract subject such as magnetic field. For this reason, worksheet and exploration sheet based on PDEODE*E (Predict, Discuss, Explain, Observe, Discuss, Explore, and Explain) that uses Gauss Meter application as the smartphone technology has been designed to answer the problem. The magnetic field strength in different mediums is the physics subject which covered in this research. The research was conducted with the aim to know how effective smartphone technology-based PDEODE*E could be implemented as a physics learning strategy. TUTORIAL PRA-KELAS: SEBUAH STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PEMAHAMAN KONSEP PADA PERKULIAHAN FISIKA DASAR

The Pre-Class Tutorial have been implemented to improve conceptual understanding of basic physics concepts among the pre-service physics teacher at one of Education College in Bandung City. This study was motivated by the previous research findings that students encounter the conceptual difficulties and the lack of understanding in introductory physics course. Based on these findings, we developed pre-class tutorial that facilitate students either to construct their own concepts o rto apply the concepts. The descriptive method was used to 260 third-years students of Physics Education Department. The increasing of conceptual understanding was identified from the average score of students’ achievement on the exam test. The findings showed that the use of pre-class tutorial effectively improve students’ conceptual understanding.

Penerapan Scientific Approach untuk Meningkatkan Literasi Saintifik dalam Domain Kompetensi Siswa SMP pada Topik Kalor

Scientific Literacy (SL) is a persons ability to use knowledge and scientific process to understand scientific phenomena in solving a problem or making a decision. However it is known that the SL of Indonesian students are in low grade. There is an indication that the SL is less facilitated in science learning. Capabilities that it is seen difficult associated with evaluating and designing scientific investigations, as well as making the questions for investigation. Quasy-experimental research with one group pretest and posttest design applied in one of the schools in Bandung city through purposive sampling, which consist of 32 students which aim to get the result of the SL after being applied scientific approach to the topic of heat. The instrument uses 20 essays with a reliability of 0.83. N-gain analysis showed an increase in the domain of competence, that is a competence in explaining scientific phenomena, competence in evaluating and designing of scientific research, as well as the competence to interpret the data and scientific evidence.. Learning with applying scientific approach has been able to increase the competency in the medium category.
