Substance use and misuse (SUM) in adolescence is a significant public health problem and the extent to which adolescents exhibit SUM behaviors differs across ethnicity. This study aimed to explore the ethnicity-specific and gender-specific associations among sports factors, familial factors, and personal satisfaction with physical appearance (i.e., covariates) and SUM in a sample of adolescents from Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this cross-sectional study the participants were 1742 adolescents (17–18 years of age) from Bosnia and Herzegovina who were in their last year of high school education (high school seniors). The sample comprised 772 Croatian (558 females) and 970 Bosniak (485 females) adolescents. Variables were collected using a previously developed and validated questionnaire that included questions on SUM (alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking, and consumption of other drugs), sport factors, parental education, socioeconomic status, and satisfaction with physical appearance and body weight. The consumption of cigarettes remains high (37% of adolescents smoke cigarettes), with a higher prevalence among Croatians. Harmful drinking is also alarming (evidenced in 28.4% of adolescents). The consumption of illicit drugs remains low with 5.7% of adolescents who consume drugs, with a higher prevalence among Bosniaks. A higher likelihood of engaging in SUM is found among children who quit sports (for smoking and drinking), boys who perceive themselves to be good looking (for smoking), and girls who are not satisfied with their body weight (for smoking). Higher maternal education is systematically found to be associated with greater SUM in Bosniak girls. Information on the associations presented herein could be discretely disseminated as a part of regular school administrative functions. The results warrant future prospective studies that more precisely identify the causality among certain variables.

The height, weight, diameters, volumes and skin folds were measured on a sample of 242 young soccer players from the Republic of Kosovo and therefore, the body composition, somatotype components, BMI index and maximum oxygen consumption. These were indirectly measured in order to determine their common morphological and functional features and analyz e specificity i.e., the likely differences based on the playing positions (goalkeepers, defense, middle players and attackers). W ithin the statistical analysis, the basic descriptive statistical parameters were calculated, and a multivariate and univariate analysis of v ri nce and post-hoc analysis were applied. Goalkeepers have statistically significantly higher body height and humeral breadth, and lower v lues of maximum oxygen consumption, in comparison to players who play the other positions on the team and higher body weight regarding the players who play in the middle and the attackers. Defense players have statistically significant higher body weight than the mi ddle players. In the other anthropometric measures and somatotype components, there are no statistically significant differences amo ng th players who play on different positions in the team. The achieved results could serve as normative morphological and functional indicat rs for regular sports medical examinations of young soccer players in the Republic of Kosovo. They could also be used as a templat e for comparison of the morphological and functional data of young soccer players at similar level in different countries.

Skiing is one of the more well known winter sports which may cause wounds. The target of this examination was to distinguish the most well-known kinds of wounds in Iran’s biggest ski resort. This cross-sectional unmistakable examination was performed on 1233 of patients admitted to the Dizin Resort Infirmary in 2008- 2009. Acquired information included age, sex, injury type and clinical intercessions. All information were investigated by SPSS 16.0 programming. Background: Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent joint condition in the world . The knee is the primary large joint affected by the disease. Obesity has been shown to both cause and exacerbate osteoarthritis and is the most notable risk factor which can be modified . There is evidence to endorse weight reduction as a treatment for osteoarthritis .There is also good evidence showing that education and Exercise interventions can reduce pain and increase physical ability.I will discuss the three models of human movement, the inverted pendulum model, the spring-mass model and the integrated spring-mass model (ISMM). The (ISMM), which integrates the spring suspension systems of the foot and shoulder region as well as the torsion spring of the spine and the mass, the head. I will discuss my clinical findings show compressive disorders like TOS and herniated discs are merely an over control of tension on the human spring mechanism leading to these syndromes. I will give brief review of the symptoms and their patterns, the common orthopedic tests, and diagnostic tests, the 16 different common conservative therapies and the 10 reasons for when surgery is medically necessary. I will discuss an alternative treatment for this disorder based on the integrated spring mass model.Introduction Traumatic-induced stresses provoke an alteration in hemodynamic parameters and neurohormonal indices. These changes can be pathologically deteriorated following chronic repetitive head trauma. In this regard, head trauma may cause irreversible metabolic and hormonal changes leading patients disability and lowering quality of life [1, 2]. Another major of point to be mentioned is Boxing nature that has repetitive head trauma and high-intensity *Corresponding author: Yasaman Keivanchehr, Tabriz University of Medical Science, Iran. E-mail: [email protected]; Tel: +989120171524B Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a member of the neurotrophins family known to promote synaptic plasticity, induces neurogenesis and neuronal survival. BDNF also exert a key role in learning and memory abilities. Furthermore, reduced levels of BDNF have been linked to depression, anxiety and the physiopathology of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions such as Schizophrenia and Parkinsons disease, respectively. Importantly, peripheral BDNF levels have been used as a biomarker in several clinical studies, since this neurotrophin is able to cross the blood-brain barrier in a bi-directional manner and seems to present a strong correlation with the central nervous system fluid levels. Experimental and clinical studies have demonstrated that different exercise protocols remarkably increase BDNF levels in both healthy and patient populations. However, this response in well-trained individuals has been poorly explored. Among the various categories of physical activity available, running is probably the oldest performed by humans. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of regular running practice on BDNF levels in plasma of middle-aged (aged 30-50 years old) and elderly (aged ≥ 60 years old) healthy individuals. Then, amateur runners (EXE groups) and sedentary individuals (SED groups) were submitted to a basal blood collection (15 ml). Plasma BDNF levels were determined by the ELISA method, from Sigma–Aldrich commercial kit (catalog number RAB0026) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A significant increase in BDNF levels in EXE individuals compared to the SED group was observed in both groups, young and elderly (p=0.036, p=0.007, respectively). These findings might suggest that the increased levels of BDNF might be linked to runners’ phenotype, regardless of age.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine body height in Macedonian adults as well as its relationship with arm span, as an alternative to estimating body height. A total of 239 students (114 men and 125 women) participated in this study. The anthropometric measurements were taken according to the protocol of ISAK. The relationships between body height and arm span were determined using simple correlation coefficients at a ninetyfive percent confidence interval. Then a linear regression analysis was performed to examine extent to which arm span can reliably predict body height. Results displayed that male Macedonians are 178.10±6.79cm tall and have an arm span of 178.78±7.71cm, while female Macedonians are 164.58±5.40cm tall and have an arm span of 164.41±6.42cm. The results have shown that both genders made Macedonians a tall nation but not even close to be in top tallest nations. Moreover, the arm span reliably predicts body height in both genders.
