Spiropyrans are the class of organic photochromes [1–3] whose photochemical properties may be varied by introducing different substituents in the molecule, including the coordinatively active ones. The structural and chemical properties of the obtained derivatives suggest their potential photochemical activity and the ability to form the heteronuclear complexes containing coordination node with the predicted structure and parameters of the exchange interaction.

L. D. Popov; A. N. Morozov; E. A. Raspopova; S. I. Levchenkov; I. N. Shcherbakov; A. S. Burlov; G. G. Aleksandrov; V. A. Kogan

Abstract2-N-Tosylaminobenzaldehyde ferrocenoylhydrazone was synthesized. The crystal structure of the hydrazone was shown to include two independent molecules differing in mutual orientation of the tosyl and ferrocene fragments. Quantum-chemical simulation of the hydrazone tautomerism was performed. Its complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) were synthesized and investigated.

Abstract2-N-Tosylaminobenzaldehyde ferrocenoylhydrazone (H2L) and the octahedral nickel(II) complex [Ni(HL)2] · 2CH3OH (I) are synthesized and structurally characterized (CIF files CCDC 981876 (H2L) and 981877 (I)). The crystal structures of both compounds include two independent molecules with different mutual orientations of the tosyl and ferrocene fragments. In a single crystal of H2L, the independent molecules are joined by intermolecular hydrogen bonds into infinite linear chains extended along the crystallographic axis x. The π-stacking interaction between the cyclopentadienyl rings is observed along with hydrogen bonds in a single crystal of complex I.

A new Schiff base ligand, 4-methyl-N-{2-[(2-methyl-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-3-yl)iminomethyl]-phenyl}benzenesulfonamide (L), and its complexes with transition metals [Cd(L)2], [Zn(L)2], and [CuLOAc] have been synthesized. The structure and electronic properties of the ligand have been studied by quantum chemical methods, and its zinc and cadmium complexes have been found to exhibit luminescence properties.

Tetranuclear copper(II) complex with the µ 4 -1,6-hexadicarboxylate linker: crystal structure and magnetic properties

L. D. Popov; S. I. Levchenkov; I. N. Shcherbakov; G. G. Aleksandrov; E. A. Raspopova; Yu. P. Tupolova; V. V. Lukov

Tetranuclear copper(II) complex [Cu4L2(OOC(CH2)6COO)] (I) based on bis(azomethine), condensation product of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-formylpyrazolone-5 with 1,3-diaminopropanol-2, is synthesized. The structure of its DMSO-adduct (Ia) is determined by X-ray diffraction analysis (CIF file CCDC 1447891). The complexes contain two binuclear fragments bonded by the µ4-1,6-hexadicarboxylate linker. The magnetic exchange interaction in complex I is antiferromagnetic (2J =–155 cm–1), whereas that in complex Ia is ferromagnetic (2J = 129 cm–1), which is due to different conformations of the metallochelate cycles.

Salicylic aldehyde and 2-N-tosylaminobenzaldehyde tetrazolyl hydrazones and their complexes

S. I. Levchenkov; L. D. Popov; I. N. Scherbakov; E. A. Raspopova; A. N. Morozov; A. S. Burlov; V. A. Kogan

Tetrazolyl hydrazones of salicylic aldehyde and 2-N-tosylaminobenzaldehyde as well as zinc(II) and copper(II) complexes on their base have been prepared. Quantum-chemical simulation of tautomerism of the hydrazones in vacuum and in the solutions has been performed. IR and NMR spectroscopy and magnetochemistry studies have revealed that the complexes are mononuclear; however, weak intermolecular exchange interaction of the antiferromagnetic type has been detected in the copper(II) complexes.

Biacetyl monooxime ferrocenoylhydrazone and its complexing properties

A. N. Morozov; L. D. Popov; E. A. Raspopova; S. I. Levchenkov; I. N. Shcherbakov; D. S. Samorodnyaya; V. A. Kogan

Biacetyl monooxime ferrocenoylhydrazone has been synthesized and studied by 1H NMR, IR, and electronic spectroscopy. The electronic absorption spectrum of the title compound in the UV and visible regions has been found to depend on the solvent polarity and pH. Most favorable structures of the hydrazone in solution and gas phase have been determined by quantum chemical calculations. The complexing ability of biacetyl monooxime ferrocenoylhydrazone toward copper(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) ions has been estimated.

L. D. Popov; A. O. Bulanov; E. A. Raspopova; A. N. Morozov; I. N. Scherbakov; O. I. Kobeleva; T. M. Valova; V. A. Barachevskii

A series of new hydrazones based on 3,3-dimethyl-7-hydroxy-8-formyl-[2H]-1-benzopyran-2,1-[2]-oxaindane] with the substituents of different nature in the hydrazone moiety was synthesized. A comparative study of photochromism and complexation of the synthesized spiropyrans with a number of metal cations was carried out. Spectral and kinetic differences in photochromism and complexation of these compounds were revealed.
