Laparoscopic treatment of renal cysts

Four patients underwent laparoscopic resection of extensive (8–15 cm) inferior and medio-renal polar cysts of the kidney. The average operating time was 2 h. The operation is performed with the patients lying in a lateral decubitus position, and requires four incisions for access. The laparoscopic resection of renal cysts can be proposed as a valid alternative to standard surgical treatment as well as percutaneous hollow-needle aspiration.

Urinary Red Blood Cell Microscopic Morphology after ESWL: A Parameter of Glomerular Damage

It has been shown that shock waves can cause damage to the vascular structure of the kidneys and tubules and also to the renal glomeruli1. We undertook a study of the microscopic morphology of urinary erythrocytes in a group of patients who underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), to assess possible glomerular damage.

Hypertension after Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy: Long Term Follow Up

Hypertension has been reported to occur following extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Retrospective studies reported an incidence of new onset hypertension between 2.4 and 8.1%) and a significant rise in mean diastolic blood pressure was observed by some authors1-5. In order to assess the clinical impact of the potential risk of hypertension after ESWL, the present prospective study was performed.
