The reactions of Me3SiCHN2 with [PtX2(S,S- skewphos)]: Highly diastereoselective carbene insertions into PtCl bonds, and Me3SiCHN2 as a CH2N2 equivalent

Paola Bergamini; E Costa; Silvana Sostero; Christian Ganter; John K. Hogg; A. Guy Orpen; Paul G. Pringle

[PtCl2(S,S-skewphos)] reacts with Me3SiCHN2 in dry CH2Cl2 to give [PtCl(S-CHClSiMe3)(S,S- skewphos)] in high yield, but in the presence of water [Pt(CH2Cl)2)(S,S-skewphos)] is formed. Treatment of [PtCl(S- CHClSiMe3)(S,S-skewphos)] with NaI gives [PtI(CHISiMe3)(S,S-skewphos)] as a 1:1 mixture of diastereoisomers.

Further perspectives in organometallic photochemistry

Paola Bergamini; E Costa; Silvana Sostero; Orazio Traverso

Abstract This article discusses developments in two fields of organometallic chemistry: photochemistry of transition metal hydrides as a route to produce low valent transition metal compounds and the potential of photogenerated coordinatively and electronically unsaturated organometallic species to activate C-H bonds.

Remote interfacial electron transfer processes on nanocrystalline TiO2 sensitized with polynuclear complexes

Carlo Alberto Bignozzi; Monica Alebbi; E Costa; Cornelis J. Kleverlaan; Roberto Argazzi; Gerald J. Meyer

The kinetic study of interfacial electron transfer in sensitized nanocrystalline semiconductor is essential to the design of molecular devices performing specific light induced functions in a microheterogeneous environment. A series of molecular assemblies performing direct and remote charge injection to the semiconductor have been discussed in the context of artificial photosynthesis. A particular attention in this article has been paid to the factors that control the interfacial electron transfer processes in nanocrystalline TiO2 films sensitized with mononuclear and polynuclear transition metal complexes.
