A set of equations of unsteady-state wave motion of the dispersed phase in a binary vapor–gas medium with allowance for the heat and mass transfer is obtained. By computational experiment, it is studied how gas pulsations at the channel inlet affect the flow of the gas–solid suspension and the intensity of heat and mass transfer under resonant conditions. In particular, it is shown that, in the parameter range studied, gas pulsations enhance the interphase heat and mass transfer.

A phenomenological model of longitudinal mixing of particles in a circulating fluidized bed is formulated. The model allows for the main features of the process: ascending motion of particles in the core of the bed and their descending motion in the annular zone (internal circulation of the solid phase); considerable changes in the concentration of particles and in the values of the ascending and descending zones over the bed height; external circulation of the solid phase and the effect of the near‐bottom fluidized bed on the process as a whole. The validity of the initial proposition is confirmed by comparison of calculated and experimental curves of mixing.

An engineering procedure for calculating the thermal regime of the furnace chambers of fire‐tube boilers with a dead‐end furnace is given. The procedure proposed is devoid of many drawbacks that are inherent in the standard method for calculating boiler units and permits more accurate allowance for the special features of combined energy exchange in furnace chambers of boilers that differ significantly in type and size from traditional ones.

Abstract A numerical algorithm for radiative transfer characteristics calculation in an absorbing, scattering and emitting medium of various multidimensional geometry is proposed. Some results of numerical investigation of the influence of optical properties and geometric form of medium on the radiative transfer characteristics are discussed.

The efficiency and correctness of the procedure of calculation of the optical characteristics of selectively radiating and absorbing media proposed by the authors earlier and making it possible to take into account with a high degree of accuracy the fine structure of the absorption line is illustrated with the example of calculation of a number of standard problems of radiative transfer. The reliability of calculation of the absorption coefficient (averaged over a finite spectral interval) of a selective medium is evaluated based on the comparison of the results obtained to the experimental and theoretical data given in the literature.

The effect of scattering on the lineshape of outgoing radiation for the regular absorption band model is investigated for the model of a homogeneous plane-parallel radiating, absorbing, and scattering layer with transparent boundaries. The investigation is based on numerical solution of the integrodifferential equation of radiation transport. Based on an analysis of results obtained, methods more accurate than the known ones are proposed for calculation of the absorption coefficient by a selective component of the medium averaged over a finite spectral range.

An analytical expression for determination of the correction factor which allows for effect of scattering on the contour of the radiation line of a plane layer of a selective medium is presented. Errors of calculation of the intensity of radiation which arise when this effect is neglected are analyzed. The study is based on a numerical solution of the integro-differential transfer equation.

To describe the interaction of electromagnetic waves with a polarized medium, electric and magnetic relaxation times are introduced. A solution to the problem of periodic boundary regime propagation with regard for the hereditary characteristics of the absorbing medium, which qualitatively agrees with the experimental data, has been obtained.

To model electromagnetic phenomena in layered media when we have a spatial charge distribution and an electric double layer at the boundary of contact it is proposed that the equation of telegraphy for the vector of the electric field strength and 12 conditions at the boundary of contact which reflect the laws of conservation of charge and energy without separating explicitly the surface charge for the multidimensional case be employed. An example of solution of the problem of propagation of a plane monochromatic wave for two media with dissimilar electrophysical properties is given for the one-dimensional case.
