Previously unknown derivatives of pyridine have been synthesized by reaction of tetracyanoethylated ketones with concentrated aqueous solutions of hydrochloric and hydrobromic acids. The unique course of the reaction of 4,4,5,5-tetracyano-2-pentanone with gaseous hydrogen chloride has been demonstrated.

Tetracyanoalkanones react with pyruvic acid with the formation of 3,4-dicyano-5,6-dialkyl-2(1H)-pyridones, the structure of which was confirmed by IR, 13C NMR, and mass spectra.

Reaction of tetracyanoethylated ketones with aldehydes. Synthesis of 3-imino-2,6-dioxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes

The products of the addition of tetracyanoethylene to ketones react smoothly with aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic aldehydes to give 4,8,8-tricyano-3-imino-2, 6-dioxabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes. The structures of the reaction products were confirmed by 13C, IR, and mass spectral data.
