Effects of viscous dissipation and Joule heat on heat transfer near a rotating disk in the presence of intensive suction

V. D. Borisevich; E. P. Potanin

Heat transfer in the bounday layer of an electrically conducting incompressible liquid near a disk rotating in an axial magnetic field is investigated for the case of intensive, uniform suction. The thermal flux intensity near the disk surface is determined in relation to the magnetic field strength and the rotation speed of the disk with an allowance for the viscous and the Joule dissipation.

Effect of a magnetic field on the circulation of a conductive medium within a rotating cylinder in the presence of a retarding end surface

E. P. Potanin

Within the framework of the magnetohydrodynamic approach, the rotational flow of an electrically conducting fluid within a rectangular circular dielectric cylinder in the presence of an asynchronously rotating upper end surface and external axial magnetic field B is investigated. The radial profiles of the azimuthal and axial medium velocity components inside the rotating volume bounded in the axial and radial directions are calculated approximately, using the analytical solutions of the system of nonlinear differentialMHD equations for boundary layers on an unbounded disk.

Three-dimensional rotational MHD flows in bounded volumes

V. D. Borisevich; E. P. Potanin

Three-dimensional laminar flows of a viscous conducting gas in the neighborhood of a rotating disk are considered. The simultaneous impact of an external magnetic field, suction from the disk surface, and the axial temperature gradient as well as the action of the external axial magnetic field on three-dimensional flows in the neighborhood of rigid permeable surfaces are first studied. An exact analytic solution of the system of the boundary layer equations is obtained. It is found that the direction of the radial flow initiated in the boundary layer can be varied by changing the temperature ratio in the external flow and on the disk for various Prandtl numbers Pr. An approximate solution of the problem of flow in the rotating cylinder in the presence of a retarding cover is constructed on the basis of the approach developed for extended disks.

The action of the tensor character of medium conductivity upon flow and heat transport in the boundary layer on a rotating disk is studied in the presence of an axial magnetic field and various directions of the angular velocity vector.

Averaging of noninertial terms over the boundary-layer section in the equations of motion is used to study the effect of suction and injection on the hydrodynamic flow near a rotating disk.
