Abstract An efficient preparative medium-pressure liquid chromatography system is described. The unit offers rapid and economic separation of lipophilic compounds on preparative glass columns filled with silica gel by a tamping method. Details for the construction of the chromatograph unit and its operation are given and various types of components such as pumps, pulse dampers, columns, detectors and fraction collectors are discussed.
