Charged Soot Particles in Unseeded and Seeded Flames

The fact that a fraction of the soot particles in flames carry a natural charge and that the overall concentration of charge carriers can be influenced by additives has stimulated numerous investigations. Of the many questions that arise from those works two major ones are: How can soot formation be controlled either by electrical means or additives or by both? What is the role of the different charge carriers in carbon formation, and how is the mutual interaction between them and the soot particles? This paper attempts to make a contribution to the second problem and tries to give some answers.
