Abstract A tritiated DNA transcript of the Gardner-Arnstein strain of feline sarcoma virus was utilized in hybridization assays with cat tissues from a specific pathogen-free cat colony. This colony has been free of feline type-C viruses (FeLV) and FeLV-related disease. The SPF tissue DNA contained FeLV-related sequences to the same extent as tissues from conventional cats. Ocelot and lion DNAs were essentially negative for these sequences.
