Diagnosis and Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

In most cases, diagnosis of prostatism is based on evidence of obstruction to the passage of urine. Diagnostic criteria and procedures are presented, and the indications for treatment, whether nonoperative or operative, are described. The two principal methods of operation are also discussed. With operative methods currently available, few, if any, patients need be denied relief from prostatism.
