Children, people's troubles, and the image of psychologists

Edward T. Clark

Job titles given by two widely disparate samples, consisting of 100 male undergraduates and 304 (165 boys and 139 girls) culturally disadvantaged children in Grades 3 through 6, to the male figure of Plate M6 (personnel or social worker) of the Vocational Apperception Test indicates that, as compared with that of marriage counsellors or psychiatrists, the image of psychologists is negligible in both groups.

Manifest Needs among Rotc and Non-Rotc Undergraduates

John R. Ozehosky; James B. Mc Carthy; Edward T. Clark

Manifest needs of ROTC and non-ROTC undergraduates were studied utilizing the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS). It was hypothesized that the ROTC undergraduates would be higher than non-ROTC undergraduates on Order and lower on Autonomy and Aggression. The EPPS was administered to 20 ROTC undergraduates and to a randomly selected sample of 20 male undergraduates at St. Johns University in New York City. None of the hypothesized differences in manifest needs were found, but the ROTC undergraduates were significantly lower on Intraception and significantly higher on Heterosexuality than the non-ROTC undergraduates.
