Impact of Environmental Knowledge on Ecological Consumer Behaviour

Elena Fraj-Andrés; Eva Martínez-Salinas

Abstract Concern about environmental deterioration is one of the most relevant problems among consumers in the Spanish context. This is confirmed by the existence of a market segment which demands a responsible commitment of companies towards the environment. In this respect, companies are interested in discovering what they are like and how these consumers act. This paper analyses their environmental behaviour from a three-dimensional attitude approach. Furthermore, we are interested in discovering whether the level of environmental knowledge moderates the relationship between their attitude and their behaviour. A random sample survey of 573 individuals was used to verify the conceptual model and framework. This model was initially assessed by several exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and subsequently by structural equation modelling and multisample analysis. Findings of this study showed that environmental attitudes have a significant effect on ecological behaviour and that the level of environmental knowledge moderates this relationship. This research improves our understanding of how consumers feel and what attitudes best define their environmental behaviour.

Family Vacation Decision Making: The Role of Woman

María José Barlés-Arizón; Elena Fraj-Andrés; Eva Martínez-Salinas

ABSTRACT Most people spend their vacations with their family and decide where, how, and when with their spouses. The womans role within the couple has become more and more influential in certain purchase decisions. This influence is strongly related to their lifestyles and values. For the tourism sector and its marketing strategy, it would be very useful to know the role that women play in vacation decisions. So, this article aims to analyze the influence of womens lifestyles and values on family vacation decisions. The information is based on 300 questionnaires addressed to married or cohabiting women. The results show differences in vacation decisions depending on the profile of the women (professional vs. traditional) and their preferences in activities.

Data were used to perform two types of analyses: scales validation and cluster analysis.Findings – Three different groups have been found depending on the importance the women give to pre‐ and during‐holiday decisions. These groups present specific socio‐demographic characteristics, interests and opinions. However, findings reveal the need for further research into womens lifestyles as an explanatory variable.Research limitations/implications – This information will contribute not only to the academic knowledge, but will also help tourist managers to create competitive offers. It will also allow managers to implement more efficient promotional campaigns with the aim ...

Environmental Marketing and Competitiveness: The Moderating Role of Environmental Orientation

Elena Fraj-Andrés; Eva Martínez-Salinas; Jorge Matute-Vallejo

Empirical research about the competitive consequences of environmental marketing is still scarce and inconclusive. The aim of this study is double. First, it analyses whether implementing proactive environmental marketing influences different dimensions of organizational performance. Second, it studies if companies with a stronger environmental orientation may achieve better results by developing these practices than the less oriented firms. Findings suggest that environmental marketing drives companies to optimize its operational and commercial results and such improvement is a source of higher economic results. And, the intensity of this influence varies depending on the company’s environmental orientation, what determines the success of environmental marketing.
