Methods: The study included healthy adults (in their 20s to 50s) and was performed between May 2012 and March 2013. Data were collected by imaging the minor axis of the cubital fossa (Hueter’s line) after performing a vascularization at 10 cm on the proximal side from the cubital fossa. The diagnostic ultrasound device Xario (Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation) was used and the terminal was of a linear type with a frequency of 9 MHz.Methods: The study included 126 patients above 18 years of age who were ASA classification I-II who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and who accepted to take part in the study. In order to find out the potential obstructive sleep apnea syndrome risk, STOP-BANG and the Berlin Sleep Apnea questionnaires were surveyed. Next, the respiratory complications were observed during the perioperative period.T aim of this study was to gain insight into the experience of moral distress for Australian aged care workers in residential and community aged care. An explanatory, sequential mixed methods approach grounded in a pragmatist perspective has been used. Phase one of the study involved the amendment and pilot testing of a measurement instrument. Phase two employed semi-structured interviews exploring the experience of moral distress for Australian aged care workers. Initial pilot testing of the amended instrument demonstrated reliability (α 0.94). Moral distress in this sample of Australian aged care workers occurred with relatively low frequency; however when it did occur was deemed to be moderately distressing. Further testing of the amended instrument is warranted. Preliminary analysis of interview data suggests that organizational structure and resourcing issues are two key areas contributing to moral distress for these workers. Australian aged care workers described organizational constructs such as over regulation and inadequate communication channels and resourcing constraints related to inadequate staffing and unrealistic workloads. Moral distress contributes to decreased quality of care, diminished workplace satisfaction, physical and emotional illness & burnout and staff turnover. Interventions targeting these concerns are necessary to improve retention; specifically in light of an ageing workforce and increased demand on aged care services.W gain during pregnancy is one of the profound and common changes in women’s body which could cause obesity, metabolic diseases or psychological problems later if not managed properly. Particularly in Korea, trends of marriage and childbirth at late age, cultural custom of Sanhujori (postpartum care) and westernized lifestyles are considered to be threats to weight control. The study aimed to identify the patterns of body weight changes through pregnancy and postpartum and the related characteristics in women who were within 12 months after childbirth. A descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted with 103 Korean women by online survey recruitment. A structured questionnaire for electronic self-administration was formatted to include demographics, obstetrical history, body weights at 6 time points, instruments of International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Eating Habit Measurement. Invitation to the study was distributed by a professional survey agency. Women were 34.1 years old in average, 48% of housewives, highly educated, 73% of primiparas and 82% of breastfed mothers. The BMIs were ranged from 17.3 to 27.8 indicating 21.5% of overweight and obese women. Mean body weight increased during pregnancy was 11.5 kg (±4.79), however 26% showed weight gain more than 13 kg and 3.2 kg (±4.19, range-6~17 kg) was still remained. Women wanted to lose 5.5 kg (range 3~20 kg) more while 45% and 71% women have not tried diet or exercise respectively. Body weight variables were not related to women’s characteristics, scores of physical activity and diet. In addition physical activity and diet did not significantly differ by BMI groups. Prolonged retained body weight, wish to weight loss and poor physical activity require integrative approaches for women to ensure healthy transition to lives after reproductive periods. Excessive weight gain during pregnancy needs careful monitoring in antenatal care considering increasing population with high BMIs. Future longitudinal study is necessary to identify more accurate pictures and related variables of postpartum weight management.Methodology: The research approach adopted for this study is evaluative research approach. The research design adopted for this study is pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. Simple random sampling was used to select the sample of sixty for this study, where structured knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data. Questionnaire is prepared on basic concepts about obstetric emergencies, hemorrhage and shock, cord prolapse and uterine rupture. Background: In epilepsy, self-efficacy is an important part of successful treatment and has an effect on symptoms, functional capacity and general state of health. Nurses should develop and evaluate self-efficacy skills by conducting a comprehensive patient training aiming to maintain physical stability, avoid acts that would make the condition worse and recognize the early symptoms of getting worse. To assess self-efficacy behaviors of epilepsy patients, valid and reliable instruments in short form are needed.L of knowledge or of its applications tends to reduce human’s ability to find solution to everyday problem of life as well as those encouraged in their workplace hence reducing their effectiveness and efficiency. Nurses tend to underutilize findings from research during their everyday effort at improving patient care. There are factors which influence the extent and level of utilization of research findings. The aim of this study was to determine the extent of utilization of research findings by nurses in Botswana and to find factors which influence such utilization. The extent to which nurses use research findings, level of education, research skill, number of research related workshops attended, perceptions, attitude and research related courses taken influence level of utilization of research findings. This survey study tried to determine the level of influence of each of these factors. To test the nine research hypotheses posited to guide the study, data were collected from 305 practicing nurses in hospitals and clinics. These hypotheses were tested by carrying out t-test, one way ANOVA and correlation statistical analyses. The results showed that to a significant level nurses use research findings in clinical practice though research findings are significantly inaccessible. Level of education, number of research courses taken, research skill has significant influence the level of utilization of research findings on the other hand the number of research related workshops attended has no significant influence on the extent to which nurses use research results. Perception and attitude towards research was found to have influence on the nurses’ level of utilization of research findings. The findings of the study are expected to inform policy makers in Botswana so that they are in better position when considering utilization of research findings in clinical practice to improve patient care. The study will assist nursing curriculum developers, nurses, research institutions to promote research culture and improve quality of care. Background: Metabolic syndrome continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the US in those with serious mental disorders. The five major features of metabolic syndrome include obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose tolerance and hypertension. Metabolic syndrome is more likely to occur in individuals with mental illnesses who are prescribed second generation anti-psychotic medications (SGAs) to manage their psychiatric symptoms. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Psychiatric Association (APA) guidelines for metabolic screening allow health care providers the opportunity to focus on patients prescribed SGAs who are at higher risk. However, rates of metabolic screening for patients prescribed SGAs remains low. Strategies are needed to increase yet simplify regimens to increase adherence to guideline recommendations. Background: Metabolic syndrome continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the US in those with serious mental disorders. VPs are interactive computer simulations of real-life clinical scenarios ...T complexity of care for critically ill patients has increased significantly over the last decade with technological advances and the development of new drugs and surgical techniques requiring nursing graduates to be competent in advanced assessment and clinical skills within the general clinical setting. Evidence from the literature suggests that undergraduate nursing programs do not adequately prepare graduates to be clinically competent and that the transition from nursing student to graduate continues to be stressful and problematic. Registered nurses, midwives and enrolled nurses from Victoria, Australia were invited to participate in an online survey on the clinical competence of new registered nursing graduates. This paper reports on findings from this survey which rated new nursing graduates’ abilities in the following areas; Routine physical assessments, clinical skills, medication administration, emergency procedures, communication skills, preparedness for nursing practice and coping with the work environment. Demographic data has also been analyzed to see if factors such as clinical role, geographical location and age group and workplace settings influence these expectations. Findings from this PhD research will provide evidence to support education providers and health care organizations in developing clinical education models that provide quality learning experiences for graduates to ensure they are clinically competent with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of patient care. Background and Objective: Sexual health education in school is regarded as an effective way to increase young people’s understanding of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection, unintended pregnancies and abortion, infertility and cancer. Indeed, one of the central characteristics of an effective sexuality education programme is the level at which teachers are willing and show positive attitudes towards teaching it. The objective of the study was to assess the attitude of teachers towards sex education of secondary level schools of Dharan Sub-metropolitan city and its association with selected demographic variables.
