Digital image processing is a very useful tool because it allows to highlight and extract image attributes that are undetectable by the naked eye. In this work, an algorithm that is able to identify the corners of a rectangular-shaped figure was developed. The figure have to contrast over a darker background than the figure itself. From this information, the processing system obtains the corresponding rectangular-shaped image, and eliminates all the superfluous background information. Then, the algorithm aligns the limits of the extracted figure with the ones of the original image. The performance of the designed code was tested and validated in most of the experimental cases.

This paper presents the development of an emulator that has the ability to replicate, in real time, the behavior of photovoltaic panels (PV) arrays considering different conditions of irradiation and temperature for each one. The emulator consists of a data acquisition card, a programmable source and a computer. It is based on the bypass diode model that provides a better approximation to real operating conditions. The solution is computed by a simplified equation that uses the Lambert W function, which reduces the computation time. After that, it generates a solution table of values of current as a function of voltage on terminals, temperature and irradiation. Real-time emulation is performed by means of a search algorithm in the solutions table of the closest value to the voltage imposed on the terminals.

This paper presents a low cost wireless communication platform, based on the ZigBee protocol. It is designed with the purpose to strengthen the use of information technology in the classroom. Guides laboratory practices are focused on developing undergraduate engineering students to the area of telecommunications. The platform structure is composed of: Labs custom designed, web tools embedded wireless communication system for data acquisition in real time, and the Human Machine Interface (HMI), which records analog data and digital.

Photovoltaic systems are one of the most efficient solutions to the energy crisis of the last decades. The implementation of these systems will be economically feasible in most cases, due to extensive number of advantages that they exhibit. However, for the sake of better economic performance, it is important to generate different strategies for their management. This paper presents an optimization strategy based on the redistribution of power generated, which seeks to stop spending as it is produced to take advantage of those times when energy rates are higher, making use of a storage system. The steps for the photovoltaic system design with these criteria and economic analysis will be presented.

A platform for modeling and simulation using Matlab is presented. The platform has four models of photovoltaic panels. It identifies the parameters of each one, for a given solar panel, based on experimental data of voltage, current and environmental conditions. Also the platform generates four blocks, for using in Matlab-Simulink and Psim simulation tools. The experimental validation of the platform was made using the PV panels of the Metropolitan Technological Institute (ITM) Lab.
