We present a miniaturization technique for square dual-mode resonators. By using the Minkowski fractal iteration it is possible to obtain compact resonators. Furthermore the second harmonic is highly attenuated, thus enhancing the rejection in the upper band. A 4th order filter using two dual-mode fractal resonators has been fabricated to illustrate these results. We use the suspended substrate technology to design these resonators but the results can be extended to other technologies.

Novel compact suspended substrate stripline filters in the Ku band are proposed. Two bandpass trisection filters with asymmetrical characteristics are presented. The use of meandered-line open-loop resonators allows a significant size reduction and either positive or negative cross coupling can be realized. The synthesis is based on the general folded cross-coupled network with parallel resonators and admittance inverters. The suspended substrate technology provides an excellent electrical performance and yields a high quality factor, thus making these filters very attractive for satellite communications systems.

This paper presents a technique for an transmission zero implementation into the suspended stripline bandpass filters characteristic. Two 3rd order filters using the open-loop resonators based on a meandered half-wavelength line topology have been fabricated in order to illustrate these results. Transmission zeroes on both sides of the passband can be achieved.

This paper presents recent advances in the areas of modeling, design, and fabrication of microwave filters for space applications. A fast and accurate hybrid analysis method, combining boundary integral resonant mode expansion (BI-RME) and integral equation (IE) techniques, is described. Several filters used in satellite payloads have been successfully designed, manufactured, and measured.
