Metrichia cuniapiru, sp. n. (tribe Ochrotrichiini, family Hydroptilidae) from Misiones Province is described. Main characters useful for recognition of females of different species of Metrichia and keys for the males and larvae are provided. The pupa of M. neotropicalis is also described.

As a result of a survey carried out in Salto Encantado Provincial Park (Misiones Province, Argentina) between 2004 and 2008, two new species of Tricoptera, Polycentropus aguyje sp. n. (Polycentropodidae) and Oecetis acarati sp. n. (Leptoceridae), are described and illustrated.

Mature larvae and pupae of Metachorema griseum Schmid are described for the first time. The known distribution of the genus includes the province of Neuquén in Argentina and central and southern Chile. The distinctive characters of the larvae of this genus are: (1) prothoracic sternite consisting of a wide subrectangular central sclerite and a pair of elongated lateral sclerites, (2) anterior femora with a narrow basodistal process, (3) anterior tibia and tarsus fused and (4) anal prolegs with a short lateral sclerite with basal spine and claws simple with ventral spine and two ventral setae.

The larvae, pupae and cases of Triplectides misionensis Holzenthal and T. gracilis (Burmeister) are described from specimens collected in protected areas from northeastern Argentina. The larvae are easily differentiated by the coloration of the cephalic capsule, shape of the ventral apotome and submentum, anterior border of the pronotum, and coloration of the legs, among other characters, while the pupae can be recognized by the chaetotaxy of the head. The larvae occupy empty cases of Grumicha grumicha Valot and Nectopsyche gemma (Müller), as well as hollow twigs. Triplectides misionensis is found almost exclusively in cases of G. grumicha while T. gracilis prefers twigs of different sizes.

The main morphological characters for the identification of the larvae and pupae of Stenochorema crassicostum Schmid are given and compared with other Hydrobiosidae larvae and pupae, especially Schajovskoya neuquensis. Currently the genus Stenochorema is only known from Chile. The larvae of 12 Neotropical Hydrobiosidae genera remain yet undescribed and the biology of the South American species is still unknown.
