Results indicate color improves time performance for tables, pie charts and bar graphs, and accuracy performance for pie charts and line graphs.

This article reports on a case study of three firms which examined the organizational-level measures and process-level measures that were used to identify the effects of IT-enabled BPR (Business Process Redesign) projects. Firms in three distinct industry sectors provided the context for document review and semi-structured interview studies to identify those measures used to determine whether the firms project was considered successful and how the firm had made the determination. A theoretical framework is proposed and provisionally confirmed demonstrating the link between IT-payoffs and BPR payoffs and the creation of intermediate assets that were identifiable and measurable. Lessons learned and opportunities for future research are presented.

As the USA moves, incrementally, toward evidence-based medicine, there is growing awareness of the importance of innovation in information management. Mandates for change include improved use of resources, accelerated diffusion of knowledge and an advanced consumer role. Key among these requirements is the need for a fundamentally different patient information recording system. Within the challenges identified in the most recent national health information technology initiative, we propose a model for an electronic, patient-centric medical information infrastructure, highlighting a transportable, scalable and integrated resource. We identify resources available for technology transfer, promoting consumers as integral parts of the collaborative medical decision-making process.

Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) has been embraced by business organizations as an approach to implement and manage change. Managers are being trained to apply several concepts and techniques to successfully manage the change process. However, there is little empirical evidence to support claims of the effectiveness of concepts and techniques in practice. This paper reports results of a survey conducted to assess the perceived effectiveness of BPR concepts and tools among business practitioners. The survey also gathered data on demographic variables to investigate relationships between the nature of work and the duration of experience with the perceptions of BPR concepts and tools. The results indicate that surveyed practitioners perceived BPR concepts and tools as effective. Practitioners in financial and manufacturing fields of business in particular found benchmarking and use of customer data as effective techniques in BPR implementation.
