CWSC4EC: how to employ context, web service, and community in enterprise collaboration

Khouloud Boukadi; Chirine Ghedira; Sodki Chaari; Lucien Vincent; Emad Bataineh

Web services are becoming an essential support for inter-enterprise collaborative business process. Nevertheless, in spite of the crucial progress in Web service technologies there is some shortage especially in the discovery and selection phase. In fact, Web services are selected based on functional criteria. But, in the case of business process collaboration there is a need to consider more pragmatic criteria such as context parameters. In this work we present a framework for collaboration process creation. It enables Web services selection based on contextual description. For this end, we present a novel categorization for the context suitable to the inter-enterprise collaboration. The context categorization is represented using a flexible and dynamic ontology-based model. In order to enhance Web service selection and to improve the manageability of a high number of Web services, we use the community concept in order to gather specific domain Web services. The presented framework uses abstract templates called Goal templates to insure an abstract description of required web services. Goal templates gather both functional and contextual parameters used to select suitable services.

A conceptual analysis of the role of conversations in Web services composition

Zakaria Maamar; Soraya Kouadri Mostéfaoui; Emad Bataineh

We discuss the role of conversations in the composition of Web services. A Web service is an accessible application that other applications and humans can discover and trigger to satisfy needs. While much of the work has focused on low-level standards for publishing, discovering, and invoking Web services, it is deemed appropriate to start leveraging the Web services to the level of active components. Such components would be able for example to engage conversations and make decisions.

Web Service = E + F + I

Emad Bataineh; Zakaria Maamar; Djamal Benslimane; Chirine Ghedira

This paper presents the E, F, I approach for the development of a contextual definition of a Web service. E, F, and I stand for environment, feature, and interaction, respectively. By default, a Web service resides in an environment E where it acts and reacts. In this environment E, the Web service exposes its features F to peers or other components for awareness and visibility purposes. Finally, the Web service gets engaged with peers in common activities by coordinating their interactions I. The contextual definition of a Web service is established using the components that make up each dimension of the E, F, I approach

On coordinating personalized Web services using CooPS

Zakaria Maamar; Emad Bataineh; Ghazi Alkhatib

This paper presents CooPS, which is a method for coordinating personalized services. These services are primarily offered to mobile users. Very little has been done so far regarding first, personalizing Web services for the benefit of mobile users and second, providing the methodological support to designers who specify the operations of personalization. Various obstacles still exist such as lack of techniques for modeling and specifying the integration of personalization into Web services, and existing approaches for Web services composition typically facilitate orchestration only, while neglecting contextual information on users and Web services.

Analyzing the Behavior of Autistic and Normal Developing Children Using Eye Tracking Data

Mohamed Basel Al-Mourad; Emad Bataineh; Joana Stocker; Farhi Marir

In this paper, we have utilized the eye tracking technology to analyze and compare the gaze pattern of autistic and normal developing children. We have used and combined different stimuli (banana, tomato, football and a child’s face). Within the child’s face we have defined two areas of interest (AOI) namely: face-eyes and face-mouth. Various metrics are used to analyze the difference in behavior between the two groups. The findings provide results to the non-typical ways in which autistic children look at different objects and in particular, the face.

An Analysis Study of Factors That Determine E-Services Usage by End Users: A Case Study

Emad Bataineh; Sara Al Mutawa

The primary focus of this study is to investigate and identify the perceptions of potential end users relating to factors which impact on e-services acceptance. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been adopted in this study as it can be extended when technologies are introduced. This research validates the developed TAM model and evaluates the variance of the outcome variable (acceptance of e-services). Five factors were adopted as determinants of acceptance of e-services: ease of use, security, trust, web skills, and language. The study was undertaken in the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in the UAE. A quantitative survey methodology was adopted in this study, which surveyed 466 customers who use the GDRFA eservices. The overall findings revealed that security language, web skills and support significantly affected ease of use and perceived usefulness. However, trust does not affect ease of use. Further, ease of use significantly affects intention to use and perceived usefulness while in turn intention to use was influenced by perceived usefulness. This study offers an understanding of people’s adoption of e-government services with the help of established theories such as TAM and various factors that influence the e-government adoption with reference to UAE.
