Diterpenoid metabolites from the marine alga Cystoseira elegans

Abstract The isolation and structure determination of three new diterpenoids from the brown alga Cystoseira elegans is reported. The structures of these compounds were determined by combined chemical and spectral ( 13 C and 1 H NMR with decoupling experiments, high resolution mass spectral) methods.

Abstract New deterpenoid-hydroquinones were isolated and identified from the brown alga Cystosiera elegans. We have shown that these metabolites can also be obtained by a natural degradation of another diterpene.

Abstract Two new diunsaturated lipids, related to palmitic acid, were isolated from the brown alga Cystoseira barbata , one of which is toxic to mice during P388 lymphocytic leukemia tests.

Abstract A new metabolite has been isolated from the brown alga Cystoseira elegans and characterized as (2 E , 6 E ,14 E )-1-(1′-hydroxy-4′-methoxy-6′-methylphenyl)-5,12-dihydroxy-13-one-3,7,11,15-tetramethyl hexadeca-2,6,14-triene by spectral analysis and chemical degradation.
