Lots of studies suggest a positive relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and firm performance; however, the empirical findings are inconclusive. There are two explanations for the contradictory results: the performance implication of EO is context‐specific and the relationship between EO and performance may be curvilinear. Consulted on the perspective of the liability of newness and taken together these explanations, this paper probes into the difference in the EO‐performance linkage between new ventures and established firms. We find that the relationship between EO and performance is inverse U‐shaped in new ventures but positive in established firms. Finally, we discuss our contributions, implications, and possible future extensions.

Based on institutional theory, this study investigates the moderating effects of different types of managerial networking (political networking, financial networking, and business networking) on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation () and new venture performance in hina. The study finds that political networking has a negative moderating effect on the positive relationship between and new venture performance, financial networking has an inverse ‐shaped impact, and business networking has a positive effect. The findings not only enrich our understanding of the impact of managerial networking on the performance implication of in new ventures, but also offer new ventures some guidance on how to use and different types of managerial networking to enhance performance in hinas transition economy.

Drawing on the strategy tripod perspective, in this study we examine how the performance effect of knowledge creation capability is contingent on key industrial and institutional variables. We find that technological turbulence, competitive intensity and government support all positively moderate the relationship between knowledge creation capability and firm performance, while dysfunctional competition has a negative moderating impact. This study provides a more fine-grained analysis on the performance implications of knowledge creation capability. Moreover, it represents one of the first attempts to empirically test the interactive effects of the three legs of the strategy tripod (the industry-based, resource-based and institution-based views) in one study and supports the importance of integrating the three legs to better understand the complex phenomenon.

Drawing on the resource-based view and the behavioral theory of the firm, we examine how resources and aspirations affect rapid internationalization of firms from emerging economies. Using a 5-year panel from 257 publicly listed manufacturing firms from China, we find that neither technological resources nor marketing resources—two knowledge-based drivers traditionally identified to be behind internationalization—directly drive these firms’ growth in internationalization. Instead, we find that emerging multinationals’ performance relative to aspirations has a U-shaped impact on their growth in internationalization. In addition, technological resources amplify the U-shaped effect of performance relative to aspirations, while marketing resources weaken the effect.

Sniping agents are increasingly being deployed to assist bidders in acquiring items in online auctions. This paper reviews the extant auction literature and proposes an overarching sniping agent design framework that could potentially increase the commercial viability of snipping agents. For better alignment between the functions of sniping agents and the needs of human bidders, we review existing literature based on three fundamentals: (1) knowledge about human bidder behavior, (2) awareness of the product(s) desired by a bidder, and (3) an understanding of the research on bidding agents and auction design. The output of this review is the explicit consideration of iterative combinatorial auction agent design, fuzzy set representation of the bidder’s preferences and dynamic derivation of bidding strategies according to the progress of ongoing auctions.

Drawing on inertia-based model and uncertainty-based perspective, the study examines the factors shaping firmsi¯ preference in exploration in partner selection. Our empirical study based on 514 funds initialed by 62 fund firms during a five years period from 2007 to 2011 in China indicates: (1) inertia in previous partner selection has a significant negative effect on exploratory partner selection; (2) market uncertainty indeed affects exploratory endeavors in partner selection, but the nature of the effect is contingent on the temporal characteristics of the uncertainty. In details, market uncertainty in short period drives exploration in partner selection, whereas in long run market uncertainty will inhibit that; (3) the influences of inertia and market uncertainty are contingent on national culture. Specifically, inertial in exploitation exerts a significant negative effect on exploration in partner selection in domestic firms. However, such an effect is insignificant in international firms. In additio...
