Background and Aim: Studies of associations between various cancers and the ABO blood groups have shown elevated relative risks for some categories of disease. There has so far been no report of an evaluation of the relationship between the ABO blood groups and acne vulgaris. To investigate this association, we conducted a retrospective study of acne vulgaris diagnosed in Turkey. Material and Methods: All cases were clinically confirmed. Blood information was obtained on 498 individuals with acne vulgaris, and the distribution of ABO and Rh blood type for cases was compared with that of 419 healthy blood donors from the same geographic area. Results: Patients with group A and B blood groups ratios were higher than the control group, but not statistically significant (P = 0.325 and P = 0.138). The ratio of the patient group with AB blood group was significantly higher than in the control group (P < 0.01). The ratio of blood group O of patient group was significantly lower than in the control group (P < 0.01). There were no statistically significant differences between the patient and control groups in the distribution of Rh factor. Conclusion: Our study showed a significant association of AB and O blood groups with acne vulgaris. Further studies in a larger series on blood group antigens are needed to shed some light on the relationship between these antigens and skin cancer.

Ingrown toenail is an often painful clinical condition that usually affects the big toe. Chemical matricectomy with phenol has a low recurrence rate and good cosmetic results. However, it produces extensive tissue destruction that can result in drainage and delayed healing. Alternatives such as sodium hydroxide and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) have therefore come into vogue. A total of 39 patients with 56 ingrown toenail edges underwent chemical matricectomy with 90% TCA after partial nail avulsion. In most of the patients, adverse effects such as postoperative pain and drainage were minimal. One patient who underwent matricectomy had recurrence in a single nail edge (1.8%) at 12 months follow-up. No recurrence was observed among 38 patients during the mean follow-up period. This was considered to be statistically significant (P < 0.001). Partial nail avulsion followed by TCA matricectomy is a safe, simple, and effective method with low rates of postoperative morbidity and high rates of success.

Autoimmunity is the main etiopathogenetic factor in alopecia areata. Microchimerism is the existence of allogeneic DNA in a living creature. There are variable studies investigating the role of microchimerism on the etiopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. To our knowledge, no report has investigated the relationship between microchimerism and alopecia areata.

BACKGROUND Chemical matricectomy is performed mainly by 2 agents, phenol and sodium hydroxide. Chemical matricectomy with phenol has a low recurrence rate and good cosmetic results, but it produces extensive tissue destruction and can result in drainage and a delayed healing time. These adverse effects have brought forward the use of chemical agents such as sodium hydroxide and trichloroacetic acid for matricectomy. OBJECTIVE This prospective study aimed mainly to evaluate the efficacy of partial nail avulsion and selective chemical cauterization of the matrix using 90% bichloracetic acid (BCA) in the treatment of the ingrown nails. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 30 patients with 58 ingrown toenail edges were included in this study. All of the patients underwent chemical matricectomy with 90% BCA after partial nail avulsion. Adverse effects such as postoperative pain and drainage were minimal in most of the patients. RESULTS One patient who underwent matricectomy had recurrence in a single nail edge (1.8%) at the 12th month of the follow-up. No recurrence was observed in 29 patients during mean follow-up period. This was considered to be statistically significant (p < .001). CONCLUSION This is the first study to use BCA for the treatment of ingrown toenail. Partial nail avulsion followed by BCA matricectomy is a safe, simple, and effective method with low rates of postoperative morbidity and high rates of success. Therefore, partial nail avulsion and BCA matricectomy can be used as an alternative treatment method for the treatment of ingrown toenails.

P is a chronic and multifactorial skin disease characterized by sharply demarcated erythematous plaques with adherent silvery scales. Currently, more than 40 susceptibility genes/loci have been identified through large-scale association studies, particularly genome-wide association studies (GWAS); however, most of the identified risk variants are expected to be tagging SNPs and the functional coding variants of these susceptibility genes, particularly those that are of low frequency and rare, are largely refractory to the interrogation by GWAS and have therefore not been systematically investigated. To investigate the contribution of functional coding variants and non-coding variants to the genetic susceptibility of psoriasis and identify additional association with the disease, we carried out a large-scale sequencing analysis in three independent samples comprising 32,310 individuals of Chinese Han. We discovered two independent missense SNVs in IL23R and GJB2 of low frequency and five common missense SNVs in LCE3D, ERAP1, CARD14 and ZNF816A associated with psoriasis and identified 3 new susceptibility loci exceeded the genomewide significance threshold. The results of this study indicated that coding variants, at least non-synonymous ones with low and rare frequency might have limited contribution to the overall genetic risk of psoriasis and increase the number of confirmed psoriasis risk loci.Case Report: We had 2 patients presenting at the Skin City OPD, first was 11 years old male with complaints of three white patches with leukotrichia on his scalp for 5 years which were non-progressive. One of the patch was on right side lock and other two patches were over frontal forelock extending to mid scalp of size. The second patient was a 28 year old male with similar complaints since 20 years over the occipital area extending to the nape of the neck. We advised both them follicular unit hair grafting and subsequent excimer laser treatment.Case Report: We had 2 patients presenting at the Skin City OPD, first was 11 years old male with complaints of three white patches with leukotrichia on his scalp for 5 years which were non-progressive. Lesions can present in uncommon locations such as the oral cavity. Oral psoriasis is well described in literature and is generally asymptomatic. Yet, cases involving lingual psoriasis in particular and its clinical management are scant with <100 publications. Further, reports of symptomatic oral psoriasis remain exiguous. Pustular psoriasis (PP), an uncommon form of psoriasis, is particularly resistant to treatment. In rare cases, pustules develop on the oral mucosa and tongue. An Acrodermatitis continuum of Hallopeau (ACH) is an unusual variant of PP and targets nail beds. There is limited literature regarding successful management of PP, particularly rarer variants like ACH. Further, presentation and subsequent management of lingual PP has not yet been reported. This case aims to present and discuss novel presentations and management of symptomatic painful oral psoriasis, lingual PP, successful treatment and management of lingual PP and ACH with adalimumab. Oral psoriasis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of painful lesions of the oral mucosa that are not responding to typical therapies, especially (but not exclusively) in the setting of cutaneous psoriasis. Biopsies are essential to diagnosis and can influence management plans. Treatment of lingual psoriasis remains challenging as few reports of successful therapies exist. Reported here is the use of adalimumab as successful therapy for inducing remission of lingual PP and providing additional relief to other co-morbidities, including ACH and inflammatory arthritis. The exact etiology, pathogenesis and management of lingual PP remains obstinately obscure and more research is warranted. Background: Skin tags (ST), are small, soft, pedunculated papillomas, usually occurring on the neck, axillae and eyelids. Skin tags are associated with obesity and atherogenic profile. Aim: The aim of study was to evaluate the relationship between serum leptin, BMI, lipid profile, fasting glucose, insulin levels and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in patients with ST and to compare them with the levels in healthy controls. Materials & Methods: This study included 84 participant, 45 ST patients and 39 apparently healthy controls. BMI, fasting glucose, insulin levels were estimated in addition to lipid profile, leptin and HOMA-IR levels. Results: The ST group showed significantly higher values of age, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), BMI, triglicerid, very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL) and HOMA-IR, when compared with the healthy controls groups. There was no significant difference in sex, leptin levels, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), glucose and insulin levels between two groups. Conclusion: The results of this study confirm that ST is associated with obesity and dyslipidemia. Therefore, follow-up these patients with regard to development of disease associated with atherosclerosis may be beneficial.Purpose: Facial laceration is one of the most common trauma cases in the outpatient department of plastic surgery. For decades, a variety of scar management and prevention methods have been introduced. Recently, early postoperative fractional laser treatment has been attempted in many institutes, but the most effective energy parameter and laser type has not been established yet. This study was performed to determine effective parameters in treatment of laceration scar with a non-ablative fractional laser.
