Descartes and the Rise of Naturalistic Landscape Painting in 17th Century Holland

The present article is based upon a much lengthier expose, i.e. the chapter entitled “Descartes et la Conception Visuelle de la Nature” contained in my monograph devoted to Frans Post.1 In view of the fact that the book was published in Europe, in the French language, I venture to assume that there might be some advantage to report here some of the facts that are solely incidental to Post, but susceptible of further development and general application.
