This paper analyzes the effects of the pay for performance (PFP) system on the efficiencies of public and private hospitals in Turkey. In order to evaluate these effects, we examine the relationship between hospital efficiency and health care costs in Turkey, and address the impact of the PFP system on the efficiencies of public and private hospitals. In an effort to analyze the efficiencies of public and private hospitals, this study uses data envelopment analysis. The Malmquist Productivity Index is also used to analyze the patterns of efficiency change for the study years from 2001 to 2008. This study shows that health care costs and hospital efficiency are negatively correlated for private hospitals, while they are positively correlated for public hospitals. In other words, increased health care costs might reduce efficiency in private hospitals in contrast to public hospitals. Our findings also indicate that average efficiencies of public hospitals tend to increase, particularly during the implementation period of PFP system. The efficiency trend of private hospitals, conversely, decreased in the latter periods of the PFP system. Suggestions for improvement are provided to the health care policy makers regarding the impact of health care reforms on public and private hospitals.

Changes in sectoral scope also played an important role in creating flexible working methods. For instance, the service sector’s need to support long-term projects in shipping, banking, telecommunication, press, and oil led to new work processes to focus on customer satisfaction while introducing more flexible working methods. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a holistic model regarding the antecedents and consequences of organizational ambidexterity in the context of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly for developing countries such as Turkey. Moreover, this paper also aims to reveal the moderating role of networking between organizational ambidexterity and firm performance. Design/methodology/approach By studying 105 SMEs engaged in small business and technology development centers (SBTDCs), structural equation modeling through SmartPLS is executed. Findings The findings show that: discipline and support positively influence the formation and the maintenance of organizational ambidexterity; organizational ambidexterity significantly contributes to firm performance; and the greater the networking the greater the relationship between exploitation capability and firm performance. Originality/value To date, there has been no systematic attempt in the extant literature to develop a holistic manner of organizational ambidexterity, with its antecedents and consequences in the context of SMEs in general, in SMEs of a developing country, Turkey in particular. Moreover, the moderating role of networking between organizational ambidexterity and a firm’s performance has never been examined.

In this study, the effect of the modern management models on general performance of the family corporations was analyzed with the questionnaire method. Blue Ocean Strategy, Six Sigma and Chaos Theory were used as the modern management methods. In the questionnaire, total 330 directors working in 17 different family corporations were asked questions under the title of Market Orientation, Modern Management Models and General Performance of the Corporation. In analysis part, it was clearly seen that Blue Ocean Strategy came into prominence compared to Chaos Theory and decreased the effects of Six Sigma on overall performance. While necessity of reaction formation has a high importance for all operations in a competitive environment, it is an inevitable fact that highly negative effect of the non-reaction affects the financial and growing performance of the business. In conclusion, it came out that Blue Ocean Strategy directly affects the business performance and that corporations try to wait for an opportunity and try to increase the business skills in an ambiguous competitive environment.
