To preserve the quality and the shelf life of perishable foods, it is essential to analyze the airflow distribution inside a refrigerated truck for maintaining homogeneous temperature throughout. This study is an initiation of such analysis, and air distribution patterns of ceiling-slot ventilated enclosure are numerically investigated for three different geometries. Numerical analysis is carried out by using ANSYS-FLUENT software which is based on control volume approach. In the analysis, the container’s cross-sectional area is kept constant. However, by changing the container length as 6 m, 8 m, and 13.3 m, the aspect ratio of the container is varied accordingly. The air velocity at the slot exit is varied in such a way that Reynolds number of the discharge flow covers the range between 20 and 1.23 × 105.

Nowadays, improving the energy efficiency of buildings without decreasing the comfort of its occupants is of great importance in the whole world. The most widespread passive energy control strategy is the utilization of insulation materials with low thermal transmittance. This chapter proposes an alternative control strategy that would help to create more stable temperatures inside a room. This is changing the thermal capacity of a common wall with the integration of phase change material (PCM). To evaluate the performance of the PCM, user-defined scripts are coded in commercial CFD solver ANSYS FLUENT to simulate one-dimensional heat transfer through a wall within a detached cabin in a city with Mediterranean climate for 1 day in the hot season. The placement and amount of PCM in the building element are changed and analyzed. The results show a decrease in the indoor wall temperature up to 6 °C, which is promising for further research.

Abstract This study is about numerical modeling and an analysis of cooling problems on the lower surface of a channel by multiple slot jets located on the upper surface, which is furnished with three slot jets in series with identical widths and depths. The two ends of the flat channel are open and the upper wall after the evenly spaced slots extends with adiabatic wall sections that are symmetrical at both ends. The current work deals with an analysis of flow characteristics of the geometry and determines the effect of the flow rate, slot spacing, and channel geometry on the flow velocity profiles and circulation zones and on the channel pressure drop. Appropriate meshing of the solution domain using ANSYS Fluent software is carried out. A shear-stress transport k-ω turbulence model represents the experimental data accurately and identifies the effect of the flow rate on recirculation zones occurring between adjacent slot jets.
