Empirical Results on the Accuracy of Short-Term Forecasting Techniques

This study examined fourteen sales data series and reports the performance of short-term forecasting techniques, according to different accuracy measures. The results show that simple techniques perform better overall than sophisticated ones. Further it is demonstrated that the company under investigation could improve the total accuracy of its forecasts either by combining techniques or by using a wide range of them.
