HH 262: The Red Lobe of the L1551 IRS 5 Outflow

HH 262 is a group of emitting knots located approximately 35 to the northeast of the L1551 IRS 5 source. We present a detailed study of the kinematic properties of HH 262, based on proper-motion measurements and on high-resolution imaging Fabry-Perot observations in the [S II] 6717 A line. From these observations, we conclude that it indeed appears to be the case that HH 262 is associated with the red lobe of the L1551 IRS 5 outflow.

Results of the Hα Survey of the Small Magellanic Cloud

We present the results of a kinematic survey of the Small Magellanic Cloud, performed with a scanning FP interferometer mainly at Hα. These data allow us to study the overall dynamics of the ionized hydrogen of this galaxy as well as the kinematics of classes of objects. In this presentation we exemplify how the availability of data in several wavelengths can be very useful in establishing the nature of large nebular complexes of the Small Magellanic Cloud. Our kinematic study allows us to discriminate faint shocked nebulae (such as supernova remnants) inside bright HII regions. This is confirmed by recently available radio and X-ray data.

H alpha survey of the small magellanic cloud

In 1990 we began an Hα survey of the Milky Way and the Magellanic clouds at ESO La Silla with a 36 cm telescope. We discuss briefly the specialized instrumentation used for this survey (telescope, focal reducer, scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer, photon counting system. We present some aspects about the data reduction in order to give show the quality of our data, and finally images of the SMC showing both the intensity of HII regions and the velocity of the regions.
