Implementation of an All-digital Receiver for WDM/SCM-PON Subscriber Networks

Chul Soo Lee; Jung Suk Joo; Seung Hyun Jang; Eui Suk Jung; Byoung Whi Kim

Wavelength division multiplexing/sub-carrier multiplexing-passive optical network (WDM/SCM-PON) is the most flexible and cost-effective technique to transmit multimedia signals with varied formats and speeds. In this paper we propose an all-digital receiver structure supporting up to high bit rate of 120 Mbps for a WDM/SCM-PON subscriber network. The proposed receiver is implemented on a single-chip FPGA and its performance is verified by experimental results.

Digital Carrier Recovery Loop Using both Frequency Detector and Phase Detector for MPSK Systems

Chul Soo Lee; Jung Suk Joo; Eui Suk Jung; Seunghyun Jang; Byoung Whi Kim

We propose a digital carrier recovery loop employing both a frequency detector and a phase detector for M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) systems. A new frequency error correction function is also derived to increase the acquisition range. It is shown through computer simulation that the proposed scheme can reduce the acquisition time at large frequency offsets, unlike the existing ones.
